Wish the red lanterns run lasted longer not because it really needs the time for the story but because I just need to see a world where Rankorr, Bleez and Guy were all mostly fine and active while Kara was a red. Three idiots kind of co-parenting a highly angry and hurt teen while her uncles enable her to just fuck shit up. Every day something new and miserable happens but at least they have each other. Not for long, but they’re here now.

So reasons everyone becomes a red lantern we see so far...

Atrocitus' entire homeworld and people were annihilated by the manhunters krona set on them. we also see specific connections like the loss of his immediate family. he creates the red lanterns after killing all the manhunters and making a deal with the four inversions (and then killing them IIRC?)

bleez rejects a suitor who gets revenge by siccing some yellow lanterns on her, who kill her mother and rape her. when she gets her red ring she kills the yellow lanterns.

dex-starr - his backstory hasn't been revealed in red lanterns, but if i remember he was a cat who was thrown off a bridge in a sack after his owner died?

ratchet belonged to an alien isolationist race, and when he tried to make physical contact with others he was put in solitary confinement with all his touching appendages removed and then force-fed when he tried to go on a hunger strike... which lasted for like decades he was going through it.

skallox was a crime lord's minion who was mistakenly accused of stealing something and then burned alive in revenge. he directs his rage at his boss, but also himself for not having been clever enough to see this coming.

rankorr/jack was a human on earth who's grandfather was murdered in a mugging, and he urged his brother not to take revenge and did not hide him when the police came for his brother, who had firebombed the muggers house. the police beat his brother which lead to jack finally releasing the rage he repressed for a long time.

all of their pain is connected to and created by trauma, but as ratchet observes, there is no inherent moral value in pain or rage. skallox is a red lantern, but could easily have made many people feel the same way he did when he was being burned alive by his boss. Atrocitus wrongs Bleez in a way that is paralleled in terms of lack-of-consent with how the yellow lanterns treat her, she tries to drink rankorr's blood to gain his ability to make constructs.
