Mokona’s page! Just what it says on the can.
This page is entirely games/videos that my sister and I shared. We would play as baby pokemon and create little stories and mischief for them. Many of these stories featured myself putting my witching skills to use by making a healing potion. My sister still makes fantastic art, ESPECIALLY her pokemon art. We played neopets and club penguin together. Also, we were into weeblstuff and would repeat inappropriate jokes without understanding their context. She and I were quite close as children. People used to think we were twins (I am quite happy about this). I did not realize at the time how much of a tribute to her this page is. She is still quite cute and amusing, her url on here is @kiwiplur
My favorite author was Eoin Colfer. I chewed through all the available Artemis Fowl books and then moved on to his other works. In this case, Half Moon Investigations. This is the titular boy detective, Fletcher Moon (Colfer is a man of consistency if nothing else).
The last page of the sketchbook, the cardboard end cover. This must have been done when I first got it. Those eyes with the connected nose are probably inspired by Alan Garner’s the Owl Service. I had an audiobook of it because of my dad. He really loved that story. He almost named me after Allison. I must have inherited his obsession because I never quite got over the story. Blodeuwedd in particular I still feel so close to. I too wanted to be flowers but I came out owls. I’m trying to become that pattern from the story where I get to be both. Though I am probably entrenching myself in the cycle by doing so. My dad also wrote a song about The Owl Service when he was close to the age I am now. I memorized it back then and never forgot. He and my mum were in a band together back in the 80s. The track includes my mum laughing after missing a chord. I really treasure that song. If I have children (unlikely) I’ll play/sing it for them.
Happy Halloween to anyone on my hemisphere of the world.
“Dear [friend], how u be doin!? Plz come back 2 skool”
This is the tone I used to email (and write!!) with. Oh shame eternal. The message is to my childhood friend the rat (not mouse, they had pet rats and loved them very much). They were out of school pretty frequently with what I now recognize were severe mental health issues. They used to say their self-harm scars were rat scratches. I think at one time they went to one of those fucked-up boarding schools, part of the troubled teen industry. We ended on strange terms but I hope they are safe and well now. They certainly didn’t deserve all they went through.
One again see-through fabric! Cute little halter top moment. And sandals, since she gets so warm. The way flame licks and curls reminded me of curly hair.
Those circles around the ankles/wrists are I think bracelets. I used to really love bracelets… I had metal ones that jingled when I wore them all on my wrists. I must’ve decided against drawing so many for this character, but the love is still there. Like wind chimes…
Not much to say on this one. I think I was imagining how that dress would feel wet. The weight of water in every movement, there even when you are not in the water.
