Lately, I went out quite a lot to ride with my road bike but, at least once a week, I took my Belle and went out to have fun on my gravel bike. After 10 days of being at home ( #stayathome ), I think that what I miss a lot, is this freedom that you feel when, you take your bike, with no route and no destination and get lost around there, I mean, social distancing ... this word that is used so much these days. Sweden's ShitKid Premieres Grunge Pop "Oh Please Be A Cocky Cool Kid"

This debut single off her forthcoming EP is a grunge pop take on love at first sight.

Week 7: Oct. 12- 15

I’m doing a shortened bit here so my next post will be entirely about mid-term break: great ready for a whopper.

Monday and Tuesday I had my few exams: Great War (easy), theater quiz (eh), and Literature and Place (not bad).

On Monday night we walked further into Islington and went to a pretty good crepe store (not as good as Creme de la crepe though) to celebrate finishing our first midterm day and just because we could. Tuesday night we watched "Moulin Rogue" which was so fun. On Wednesday Shelby, Alena, and I went to Covent Garden Market to do some more (Christmas) shopping. I also got myself some Creme brulee white hot chocolate (the only white chocolate I will ever endorse as it tastes like liquid creme brulee), a really cute dress and romper that were 50% off, and then an extra 20% off from Joy. Also I don't think I have ever seen such expensive baby clothes and I can't understand why anyone would spend £120 on a sweater your 3 month old will outgrow in 2 months. No. We went back to creme de la crepe, and it was even more delicious than last time, and I bought a sweatshirt to remember this delicious place. Then we went to Oxford street to the world's largest Lush (3 stories!!!!) and wandered around in a haze of awe and the delicious aroma of expensive bath products. The top floor is completely devoted to all types of bath bombs and bubble bars; I have never been more coated in glitter in my life, nor missed my bathtub so strongly. Next we went to Topshop which, as Gabi said, is large and diverse enough to be able to comfortably live there and which was still insanely crowded on a Wednesday afternoon. It was also another episode of "why is everything so expensive and so amazing". The h&m was much smaller, just 2 stories, and much better priced; I just got some leggings and a scarf in preparation for the mid term break. That night we went to that weeks study break, which was movie snacks and "THE EMPERORS NEW GROOVE"; the perfect end to a fun day!! Thursday I planned our itinerary for the mid-term break (I should be getting paid for this bc I did a pretty darn good job if I do say so myself); because I needed to have high tea at some point and I miss Niall so much, Alena, Gabriella, and I had tea at Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium. It was delicious and well worth the £35, and getting to pet and play and simply be in the presence of cats was so calming and enjoyable. Also, waking up at 3:10 this morning was a real struggle, but we made it to the Stanstead Express, and are on our way to the Airport! Amsterdam here we come!

Week 6: Oct. 5- 11

Monday-Thursday was class as normal (mostly). Instead of the normal Thursday night production, the whole Skidmore group went to a production of Miss Saigon; the story was good and the music was wonderful. It was a much better ending to the day than the useless excuse of time known as academic transitions. Thursday night, as we didn’t have a production, my Great War seminar had our second video conference with the Ancient Warfare class on Skidmore. We’d been paired and communicating with one of the student in that class about a set of WW I and Ancient poetry. It was very interesting and fun to also get to know our “war-pal” as well, and I’m still keeping up with mine as a sort of pen-pal.

Friday I did more work during the day, and then a group of us went to see the movie version of “Macbeth”. It was SO amazing and well-done, and I loved all the ways they reinvented the typical “Macbeth” production. So when it comes out in December in the U.S. everyone needs to go see it.

Saturday I went to York with four other Skidmore students and some other IES students. We had tour along the walls and through the town and walked around the Minster. The history of York is so interesting, and the different eras and cultures are visible all over the city even more so than in London. Afterward Finn met us for lunch and then we walked around the town. 

That afternoon Alena and I took a train to Garforth to spend the night with her host family from her junior year abroad. They were incredibly nice, taking us to dinner at a nice Indian restaurant that night, making a delicious breakfast the next morning (so nice to not have to cook); they also took us to visit Harewood house, which was incredibly beautiful and I can’t believe people still live there, and the national coal museum as well, which was incredibly interesting. They also made us a delicious dinner that night, before taking us to the train station.

Week 5: Sept. 28- Oct.4

Sorry I haven’t been able to post from two weeks ago, but I’m doing it now! I’ll try to remember as much as I can, but I haven’t done that much recently anyway!

So Monday through Thursday was classes as normal; Thursday night we went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Charlie Factory. It was definitely very bright and loud, perhaps a bit too much at some points. The music wasn’t that bad, and there were a couple of songs I enjoyed, but there were very many that were incredibly simple, tacky, and a bit offensive. Let’s just say I vastly prefer things like “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” or anything written by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Friday we went to the Churchill War rooms, which was really interesting. They have so much information about the time down there that they have it set up as it would have been from a day in October when the bombing of London was at its heaviest and right after Churchill had been “forced” underground after his house and war rooms was bombed and destroyed. Also, who knew that Churchill invented onesies? That night Alena, Shelby, and I went out to Poppie’s for (our first) fish and chips!! It was VERY yummy, and the sticky toffee pudding I ordered after was AMAZING. Shelby went back home, and Alena and I went to a pub, The Finsbury. I had a mojito, which was WAY too expensive for the amount of actual liquid which was in the cup but still good, and I tried Guinness, not my favorite and also too expensive. But we were there for the local bands, which were for the most part fun and musically good; 2/4 were really excellent musicians and had great lyrics and voices and were very fun to watch (one of the front singers dressed like ezra koenig and sounded like Alex Turner). The other two bands’ sounds were almost purely created from pushing buttons on electronic keyboards and such, with mediocre “singers” whose voices were either electronically modified or was a mixture of nose and glottal. Thankfully the general fun pub atmosphere and the two really fun bands, and the company of Alena, made the evening really fun.

Saturday I read 15 chapters of “Our Mutual Friend” (around 440 pages) in 5 hours, finished the last 8 chapters of “Regeneration”, and the last 13 chapters of my e tap reading, “Artichoke Hearts”. Sunday was more work as well.
