Sorry Hollywood, I'm Heading To Glendale
*I accidentally posted this on my other blog. This was posted on May 26.
Yep, my office is moving to Glendale, tomorrow. I will miss you Hollywood. You are my first love of LA. But I live in Hollywood, so I will still always enjoy your food. Like today's lunch, a bacon cheddar dog and a quesadilla dog from Skooby's.
Look at that picture, beautiful. The bacon cheddar dog is delicious. Best hot dog you can get in Hollywood during lunch. The hot dog is meaty and has an excellent snap, the bacon is crispy and good, and the cheddar ties it all together. I added relish, ketchup and jalapenos, and the bacon cheddar dog doesn't really need it. It's just I've had the bacon cheddar dog more than a few times and I like the heat of the jalapenos with the sweet of the ketchup and relish.
I love their quesadilla dog, it reminds me of my childhood. I used to get a hot dogs in a tortilla with melted cheese in Houston all the time. But what takes Skooby's quesadilla dot over the top is their aioli. It's like a spicy, garlic, mayonaise sauce. You could dip anything in it. I wouldn't recommend the quesadilla dog for everyone, but with their aioli, it really is magic.
If you want a true Hollywood hot dog, go to Skooby's. Hell, if you're wasting your time waiting in line at Pink's, go to Skooby's. Their hot dogs are better and as a true Hollywood institution, they won't disappoint.
Yesterday, May 24th, I went to Cactus Number 1. I decided to get something I had never had, the Super Nachos, and something I had had before, the chorizo quesadilla.
They were both good but I like their burritos better.
The Super Nachos were fine. I don't think you can really screw up nachos. The chips were crisp and salty, the cheese and cream blended everything together, and the beef, guacamole, and veggies (pico de gallo) only added to the depth of flavors. It was pretty big and should be considered a meal unto itself. It was good, but definitely not one of my favorites from Cactus.
The chorizo quesadilla was greasy, cheesy, and meaty. The chorizo was spicy and the cheese was gooey and brought the flavors together. I would recommend this burrito for anyone with hang over. It bring together flavors and the heaviness you need for such an occasion. If you want it for lunch, go ahead. Just remember, it should be had on it's own.
Sorry, ladies and gentlemen. You cannot see what I had on Monday. My friend and I are entering the Hi-Times Chili Cookoff. I had our first test chili today, and it was well received not only by my co-workers at my office, but by my roommate and my brother. It's spicy, meaty, veggie-y, and awesome. The only way you can try it is if you come down to Newport Beach and try it during the cookoff. Don't worry, it will be the best Newport has ever seen.
