Tracking Vecna through the planes -- Vecna Reborn takes adventurers back to Citadel Cavitius, a skull-shaped fortress previously described in the 1990 adventure Vecna Lives! It is now found in Ravenloft's Demiplane of Dread, in an ash waste linked to Kas' realm of Tovag by the Burning Peaks, instead of in the negative quasi-plane of Ash. Skull Mountain at Six Flags Great Adventure!
<- Previous | Start | Next ->
Opened: 1996 Manufacturer: Intamin Height: 40.5 ft (12.3 m) Speed: 33 mph (53 kph) Length: 1,377 ft (420 m) My most recent ride: 2021
Perhaps this is an odd way of phrasing this, but Skull Mountain is almost a tragedy of a ride. Look at my two pictures above, the facade of this indoor coaster looks awesome! Especially when the fountain is running like on the left with the water coming out of the eyes and the mouth, it looks so cool! That cool look and experience continues up through the queue with like rope lined walkways and it looks like you're going through a cave.
And then you ride it and you discover that it's just a roller coaster in a box. It's almost completely dark on the inside, heavy metal music is blasting and there's like a weird freakin disco ball skull thing with colorful lights for eyes that stares at you when you sit on the brake run at the end. It is a bizarre experience and totally misses the mark on the cave exploration theming it had built up through the facade and the queue.
The ride itself is also underwhelming. The pacing (how fast the ride feels like it moves along the track) is super inconsistent as the ride constantly slows down and speeds up as it navigates the layout and all the weird twists and turns it has and just adds to the weirdness of the ride.
Being an Intamin, the ride is smooth, which is definitely a plus, but that's about the only plus the ride has beyond the look of the outside and the queue line. I have heard that you get some surprisingly strong airtime going over the first drop if you ride in the back car, but I've never ridden it back there so I can't speak to that myself. Maybe I'll give that a shot next time I'm back at Great Adventure.
Thanks for checking out today's coaster post! Keep an eye out for tomorrow's coaster!

KABBALAH - Abomination
Ligths descending to the ground, into the trees A bright light glowing in the dark, unlike ever seen Revealing an strange craft, covered in glass time felt like slowing down, deadned sounds As the night fell upon us, upon our souls A scarlet moon hang in the sky, on capricorn we dreamt the strangest dreams, dead and foul An unshaped mass creeps and advances awkardly It is getting closer What this abomination wants from me? Why disturb my dreams? Horror, madness and despair Fetid creatures continue their descent nameless, faceless, endless fear Beware, they're getting near

"SKULL MOUNTAIN: A FOUR LABEL SAMPLER FROM THE UNDERGROUND"
Ripple Music / Twin Earth Records / D.H.U. Records / Kozmik Artifactz (2018)
Kabbalah is a project signed by Carmen and Marga, former members of Las Culebras. They initiate a new phase to darkerenvironments, looking at the 70s with a clear predilection for the occult, witchcraft, and spooky sounds. Alba arrives in 2015 to complete the band. Their sound moves between flashes of occult rock, 70s retro and classic heavy-psychedelic of the late 60s.
Over a year in the making! Perhaps the world's first Four-Label collaborative effort to bring together some of the best heavy psych, stoner, doom from both sides of the Atlantic.
Two US-based labels, Ripple Music and Twin Earth Records, join forces with two European-based labels, DHU Records and Kozmik Artifactz to bring forth a double album of epic proportions, something so massive it could only have its own monolith!
Each Label showcases one full album side of it's signature sound, each song previously unreleased or unreleased mix. The entire album mastered to perfection by Tony Reed at HeavyHead. Inside the gatefold, Tarot cards display the four element theme of Skull Mountain with each Label represented by it's own signature element, Ripple - Water; Twin Earth - Earth, DHU - Fire, and Kozmik - Air. Accordingly, each label has a limited amount of vinyl available in it's own signature elemental color, Ripple - Blue, Twin Earth - Green, DHU - Red, and Kozmik - Clear.
That’s right! Only 500 of these stunning 2xLP albums were pressed, with each label only having 125 in its signature color!
An epic introduction into the worlds of North American and European heavy music. A monumental journey to Skull Mountain.
