ANGLE OF ATTACK // DRAW!! // SNOWBLIND // BEADED UP
Some GIFs I made of Sky Rogue, a really cool rogue-lite action flight simulator with procedurally generated islands, a variety of planes and weapons to unlock, and random objectives to complete, ranging from shooting down bombers to attacking targets on the ground to even shooting down massive airships filled to the brim with anti-air defenses. The game has mod support, and the community has even managed to mod in planes from Ace Combat.
Sky Rogue - Version 1.0
I know, “Sky Rogue” (”SR”) news are already everywhere, but I really need and want to make my own post about it too. Along with “Nightstar: Rogue Wings” (see in my previous posts), this is also THE game, if you want good arcade sci-fi flying shooter, and you want it right now. “NRW” has all bells and whistles in graphics department, “SR” is different, it is low-poly approach to visuals, and it works. I have this game for a year or so already, bought as Steam “Early Access”. No regrets, great fun, A Must Have. Very satisfactory shooting, I think good sound design makes strong impact in addition to gameplay dynamics, debris effects, etc. Oh, and don’t forget it has MODs !
I would say, if you are into aerial arcade combat game - you most likely already have “SR”. On the other hand, if you not into this genre - this game might be a reason to reconsider, and jump in.
I finished a run of Sky Rogue!
Using the Thunder Force-themed ships and weapons is decidedly overpowered, since the Hunters (homing shots) and the Thunder Sword (high-power high-range beam weapon) can easily be equipped on any ship and you can leave it at that for the most part, but there’s still a number of points where you have to be careful of missiles and lock-ons and other stuff, lest you end up eating a fiery death to the face. Or the tail. Either or.
In fact, the only reason I managed to beat the final boss was because I quickly swiveled around and used the Thunder Sword on it before it could get any attacks off. When I tried a second time and flew around to see what its attacks were like (and whether it did anything other than sit in one place) I immediately ate a Mass Driver missile and died. It’s kind of a shame, because I think it’d be a lot more interesting to have a proper dogfight with this huge thing, rather than just giving it instadeath weapons. Maybe that’s karma, though.
Either way, the game’s still in beta, so I can’t complain too much. It’s a lot of fun!
