A/n - not proofread! I’m not entirely happy with it so it may be up for individual rewrites sometime but enjoy these drabbles for now!

You wake up in a haze, you can’t get your eyes to focus properly and a headaches already set in despite being awake thirty second. Your heat you remember, further reminded by the sticky slick between your legs already leaking.
“Fuck.” Your murmur, stumbling your way to the bathroom, trying to ignore your brain as it screams for an alpha, your alpha.
You have your boyfriend, you’d even talked about your boundaries over your heats but the idea of calling him, filled you with embarrassment.
You decide to try and settle in your nest, mostly made of Chan’s clothes and blankets with a few items from the other members of his pack stolen by your request, you’d spent so much time around them they became a comfort to your omega.
Your eyes fall shut as you bring a sweater of his to your nose, you know it won’t last long before your woken up by your heat again but you’ll take what you can get.
The next time you’re awake you can barely move, muscles tight and fever heating your skin you feel awful.
Your thoughts are filled with images of chan taking you, knotting you till you’re full of his pups, using your body till you can’t take anymore like an alpha should.
Blearily reaching for your phone you hit dial on his contact without a second thought, his voice making you whine when he picks up.
“Is my pretty little omega in heat hm? Do you want alpha to come stay baby?” You can hear him trying to suppress his laugh down the line as you whine again in reply, far from coherent at this point. All you wanted, needed was him and he wasn’t here.
“Stay where you are sweetheart, Alpha won’t be long I promise.” He murmurs, reassuring you before he leaves you in the quiet of your nest, that you move to rearrange so he will be pleased when he gets to see it.
Chan clearing his throat makes you jump, turning to see him standing in the doorway with nearly all of his clothes off. “Here omega, wanna finish your nest before I get in?” He asks gently, holding out the hoodie and sweats he’d clearly just taken off.
You nod, eyes going wide as you all but snatch the items from him and turn back to your nest. You can do this part, make Alpha happy and he will take care of you.
Eventually your happy with it, your omega keening for your alphas praise. “Alpha alpha alpha inside, please.” You turn, grabbing for him and nearly tripping over yourself in the attempt.
“Easy baby I’m coming, such a good nest for us, such a good omega for me.” He soothes, laying on the praise as he settled you next to him in the nest.
Lee know
You were supposed to call him the second your pre heat started, your boyfriend was locked away in the studio recording and practicing for the next comeback, giving you very specific instructions to call him if and when your heat started.
Instead you were on day two of your heat, restless and feeling awful, your omega crying out for your alpha as the physical affects of not having him around were hitting full force.
You hear your phone ringing somewhere, blindly grabbing for it and pressing the answer button. “Alpha?” You answer, almost shy.
“Oh shit, Minho get your ass to your omegas like yesterday, I’m pretty sure she’s in heat” You hear a voice reply, clearly not your alpha. Chan you think as the line goes dead.
You whimper, your omega crying over the perceived rejection of an alpha. You didn’t know what to do with yourself as you lay quietly in your nest, shuffling items round till the ones with the most of his scent were near your face.
“Omega? hey I’m here. Alphas here I’m not going anywhere.” Minhos voice brings you out of your crying, you didn’t even realise you were as his hand cups your jaw, thumb brushing the tears away.
“Can I come in? Want alpha to lay down with you till you feel better baby?” He barley finishes the question before your grabbing for him, pulling on the hem of his sweater to bring him inside the nest.
“Hey, hey shh I’m right here no need to drag me jagiya.” He laughs, wrapping an arm around your waist so you both wouldn’t fall.
“Nest, inside.” You mumble, words slurred as you calm down with his presence, your omega purring as he shifts you both till your inside, scents surrounding you both easing you further into your hazy state.
Changbin
Your heat hit early, no pre heat to warn you either and with your boyfriend, your mated alpha, out on tour you felt like you were dying.
You swore you weren’t due for another week, after he was back at the same time of his rut. It was supposed to be the first you’d spent together as mates but apparently your body didn’t get the memo.
You tried the painkillers, toys, scented clothes but nothing helped, the only thing you wanted was your alpha and he wasn’t here. It left you distraught, unable to even make a real nest. You knew logically he was coming back but the omega inside you wailed about how alpha has abandoned you, he was gone and not coming back.
“Bunny? Baby you- oh fuck.” Changbins voice breaks through your otherwise quiet room, your soft sobs the only thing audible as your sour scent took over the apartment.
You haven’t registered him, the scent suppressant not having worn off meaning you couldn’t smell him and in your heat drop brain you couldn’t hear him either.
“Shit fuck, tripple fuck bun I promise I’ll be right there give me two seconds.” He says, not sure if you can hear him right now anyway as he steps out to call chan, informing him of the situation quickly before rushing around to grab the supplies he got for your heat.
“Bun, hey alphas here now.” He soothes, stepping closer to the bed with his wrist held out close to your nose so you could smell his scent now he’d washed off the blocker.
“Alpha?” You ask, as if you’re unsure he’s real, so far dropped it hurts his chest to look at you. “Alpha left, didn’t think he was coming back.”
“Alpha will always come back, always. What can I do to make you feel better omega?” He asks, using your titles over nicknames to try to comfort your omega alongside his Alpha.
Instead of an answer you bite his scent gland and pull him towards you slowly till he gets the message and presses himself on top of you, nosing at your scent glands, licking and biting till your cries had stopped and your breaths evened out.
Hyunjin
“Easy, easy baby I’m here, right here love.” Hyunjin shushes you, holding you against his chest as if you were made of glass.
It was your first heat, ever, you’d finally stopped your heat suppressants that you’d been taking since you were a child and now your first heat was hitting in your twenties.
“Where do you wanna nest muse? I’ve got all the stuff for you to set up a nest here.” He murmurs, pressing a kiss to your hair before you pull away, rushing off down the hall without him to make your nest.
It’s then you realise you’d never actually made a nest, you weren’t taught how to either. The realisation nearly bringing you to tears as you looked at the bag of nesting items and the bare bed.
“Hey, hey what’s wrong baby? What’s upsetting my perfect little omega hm?” He asks, stepping into the room and wrapping himself against your back.
“I- I don’t know how to do it. Want to be good for Alpha but I can’t.” You cry, overwhelmed already.
“Shh muse, breathe for me little one. Here do you want Alpha to help start it? You can change it however you want.” He suggests gently, he knew how to set up a basic nest thanks to Felix but he’d never made one for you.
“Please alpha, help.” You almost whisper, tears still streaming down your face as he moves you both so you can sit in the middle of the bed, leaving him to stand and shift through the items in the bag.
Slowly he starts, holding out different items for you to feel before placing them on the bed, praising you when you shift them around to your liking.
Eventually it’s done, enough for now to satisfy you anyway. “Good, good job sweetheart so good for me with such a pretty nest for my pretty omega.” He breathes against you as he pulls you against his chest within the nest.
Han
Waking up to slick dripping between your legs wasn’t apart of your plan, you were supposed to go to Jisungs place for the week but apparently your own biology was against the idea.
You’d talked about spending your next heat with him in depth, you’d also joined him for his latest rut and it had gone better than you expected, even in his more primal state.
But you were still wary of alphas during your heat, you hadn’t had one good experience with them before Jisung, especially not during your heats.
You decide against calling him, sending a text to chan so he can tell Jisung you’re not coming over before trying to settle yourself in a nest lacking in any well scented material.
You fall back asleep eventually , you don’t know for how long but you wake up already in tears, anxious and in a fog you can’t break out of. You know it’s your heat but it feels a hundred times worse.
Mentally your omega is spiraling, you spending Jisungs rut with him left you bonded to him in a way you weren’t before, leaving you worse off now as your omega called for your alpha.
“Call jisung.” You tell your phone, fumbling for the device as the line starts ringing.
“Hey jagi, I’m just at the studio recording so I’ll call you back in an hour, love you!” His voice calms you for a moment, until the line goes dead and you realise he did infact hang up on you.
That hurts, more than it probably should. The fact he would call you back ignored as your mind swirls with the fact your alpha rejected you, rejected you in your heat.
Alpha doesn’t want you. Your too gross when your in heat. You can’t even be a good omega for him and make a good nest, why would he want you?
You don’t notice who’s calling when your phone buzzes again, you don’t even realise you’d accidentally clicked answer instead of send to voicemail, the person at the other end of the line hearing the full extent of your heat addled panic attack.
“Mouse? Hey you okay?” Someone asks, Minho you’d realise later. “Jisungah is coming, he’s on his way back from the studio. Can you hear me?”
You can’t, too focused on the perceived rejection as you cry, you can’t even take a full breath in as you slip into a drop, alone.
The line clicks off again at some point but you don’t notice, trying to find anything with enough of Jisungs scent to calm you down even a fraction before you lost yourself entirely.
You stress and shift around, messing up the nest you’d worked on just hours ago. Nothing has enough of his scent to mask your own rotten one invading your nostrils.
You don’t notice how long it’s been, or hear Jisung come through the door carrying something heavy as he makes his way to your room, not even when he clears his throat and tries to talk to you. Too far gone to make sense of anything but that your alpha rejected you.
Then a weights on top of you, gently pressing your wrists away from your neck and down onto the bed before teeth nip at your scent gland. “Im here, im here breathe for me honey. Alphas right here.” His voice vibrates against your chest, his scent pushing out to surround you with it till you could practically choke on it.
“Baby you have to breath, just like me honey.” He tries again, taking an exaggerated breath in slowly so you could feel it against you. “I won’t leave you again, your safe jagiya.”
“No! Alpha left, bad omega I’m sorry!” You cry, not understanding still just blind with panic. “I’m sorry Alpha please, I’ll do better.” You whimper when he freezes in place, taking his silence as a negative.
“Omega, slow down. You weren’t bad, you could never be bad for Alpha. Always so good for Me. Here, see I’m right here with you.” He murmurs, smoothing the hair away from your neck before dipping down to bite on your gland properly. A last resort move to force you into taking a breath, to listen to him properly.
“Al-alpha?” You ask like you still hadn’t registered him, despite his teeth gently holding onto your neck still and it’s like a switch is flipped, your breath stutters and you take a real breath. “Good? Good for alpha?” You ask, calming down as he licks and bites as the glands either side of your neck, thumbs smoothing over the ones on your wrist.
“Yeah, yeah such a good omega for me.” He sighs softly against your skin before licking at you again, even as your breathing slowed. “My perfect girl.” Mumbled against your neck as your eyes slip closed, exhaustion and safety dragging you into an easy sleep knowing he was here now, that he wouldn’t leave you again.
Felix
“Shh angel, I’ve got you. You’ll be okay it’s just your heat starting.” Felix murmurs against your ear as you toss and turn in your half asleep state, skin heating up as sweat drenched you.
You’d been through a heat only once and never with Felix, everything was overwhelming and you couldn’t make sense of the words in your head just that he was here, your alpha wasn’t going anywhere.
“Do you want to make a nest for us baby?” He asks a while later, suppressing his laughter when you shoot up from his hold around your waist and nearly topple out of the bed in your rush to grab the blankets and clothes from the basket.
“Easy love, you want me to sit here?” He asks gently as you grab items and arrange them on the bed, creating it around him quickly and handing him things to scent more here and there when something wasn’t to your liking.
“S good alpha?” You ask eventually, admiring the nest quickly before hopping inside, curling into Felix’s chest as he lays you both back down.
“So good baby, did such a good job for us sunshine, so perfect for me.” He speaks against your ear, licking at the scent gland on your neck slowly before allowing you to do the same to him.
Seungmin
“Pup? Hey what’s wrong?” Seungmin asks, kneeling down in the small space of the corner you’d pressed yourself into.
“Al-alpha.” You whine, your heat muddling your brain leaving you only semi coherent as he brings a hand up to your face.
Realisation dawns across his face “Shit, alright pup your okay. We are gonna go home and then you can nest and I’ll take care of you.” He soothes, motioning to the others for help getting you out of the building.
“I’m gonna pick you up, then we’ll get in the car to go home okay?” He doesn’t wait for an answer, pulling you up and into his arms, a blanket wrapping around your shoulders thick with the scents of everyone to mask your heat.
You bury yourself against him, mouthing at his scent glands gently, not biting without his permission as he takes you from the studio to the car, then the car to his apartment securely in his arms not letting go for a moment.
The second the door shuts to your bedroom he lets you down, allowing you to create a new nest for your heat, handing you clothes and blankets covered in his scent every so often until you’re satisfied, dragging him into the middle.
“Happy pup? Such a good nest for us, always so good for me.” His praise lights you up and you begin to purr when he starts to lick and bite along your neck, a sound he relishes in as he holds you closer.
Jeongin
To say you felt lost felt like an understatement, you were in heat without any contact from your alpha. You couldn’t make a nest, eat or sleep properly too distracted by the lack of jeongin.
He promised he would be home from tour three days ago, then sent a text telling you that him and some of his hometown friends were going to hang out for the week and you’d given him the okay, thinking you could just deal with your heat alone.
You didn’t realise how bad you would feel, how much your omega would cry and how much pain you would be in.
You torment yourself, logic battling against your instincts as you try to get through it, your heat lasting longer than normal only making things worse.
Hard knocks pounding at your door urgently startled you, scaring you into hiding under the bed. Your chest heaves as tears stream down your face your omega screaming about a possible alpha smelling you through the door and trying to get you.
“Baby? Fuck shit fuck, love where are you it’s me, it’s just me.” Jeongin calls out to deaf ears, searching through the apartment to find you, not able to follow your scent properly with the way it’s taken over the apartment.
“Omega, hey call out for me, I’m here now, alphas here.” He tries, walking into your bedroom to spot the empty messed up nest.
“Baby? Hey you in here?” He asks again, getting down to the floor to peer under the bed, seeing you pressed as far back as you could get into the corner in a small ball.
You still can’t breath, your scent pumping out sour and scared still as you fail to recognise your boyfriend in the haze of panic.
He tries to talk you down, slow and soft but it doesn’t work, minutes tick by and he only gets more worried for you, he had no idea you were in heat, let alone this deep in your more primal headspace leaving you terrified and lost.
“Omega, come here.” The command feels sour in his throat as he uses his alpha voice but you move, shifting out from under the bed quickly to sit In front of him with your head bowed, chest still stuttering with each breath and tears still tracking quickly down your face.
You’re submitting, submitting in your heat without realising it’s him, that you’re safe, that he’s here for you now and it breaks his heart.
“It’s me, it’s alpha baby, come here.” He murmurs, pressing his wrist to your lips till they parted and you could bite down on his gland, his hand cupping your jaw to close it around his wrist and force you to bite.
“Shh, that’s it good girl, good omega for me I just need you to breathe and look at me love.” He murmurs, smoothing the hair away from your face as your breathing slows. He knows you’re starting to recognise him but he doesn’t want to scare you again.
You whine, still biting on his gland you move closer, careful as you shift into his lap as if you were waiting for rejection.
“That’s it, that’s it good girl. Can I bite you baby?” He asks gently, wrapping an arm around your waist to pull you closer easily when you nod gently.
He licks at the gland on your neck slowly before biting down as you whimper, relaxing against his body quickly. He shifts you easily so he could pick you up and into the messed up nest, not removing his teeth from your neck.
Eventually he pulls away as your teeth leave him, your chest no longer heaving underneath him and the tears no longer streaming down your face. “Theres my pretty girl, I’m so sorry for leaving you like this baby.” He murmurs, turning your head so you can meet his lips in a soft kiss.
“I’m so so sorry.” He whispers as he pulls away, thumb running over your wrist slowly as he looks at you properly, still clearly far away but happier, knowing he was here now settled you down into a calmer headspace, still running on instinct but no longer terrified.
“Alpha, nest?” You ask quiet, almost shy as if you were waiting for permission, only moving when he gives it, insisting you could do whatever you wanted now, that he wanted you to be comfortable he didn’t need you to submit to him like that anymore.
“Good girl, such a good girl for listening too alpha. You do whatever makes you happy baby I’m right here.” He encourages, removing his hoodie then his sweats so you could add them to the pile.
The Photographer and the Artist
Summary: You meet a man at your own gallery opening and are delighted at the turn of events that follows.
Pairing: idol!Hyunjin x fem!reader
Warnings: Nothing really, just fluff and a first date. A little awkwardness at the beginning.
WC: 3k
A/N: I am not a professional photographer, nor do I know any. I didn’t do much research, so there could be inaccuracies, but it doesn’t really matter for the plot.

You woke slowly, dimly aware that you weren’t in your own bed but comfortable where you were. Coming closer to awareness, your eyes flew open as you realized where you had to be. No one was beside you, which was surprising considering you were sleeping in another person’s bed. Then a dim, sleep-hazed memory surfaced of the man who’s bed you were in telling you he was going to sleep on the couch.
You stretched, arms above your head, and rolled out of bed. Taking the opportunity, you looked around his room, unsurprised by the cozy aesthetic and art supplies neatly arranged in one corner. You slipped out of his room before your curiosity could get the better of you.
Out in the living room, Hyunjin and Changbin were having some sort of hushed conversation that stopped the second Hyunjin saw you. “Y/N,” he smiled. “How’d you sleep?”
“Great, thanks,” you smiled back.
“Good. Um, this is my roommate, Changbin. Bin, this is the woman I was telling you about.” The two of you greeted each other politely before Changbin made an excuse to leave the room, shooting a pointed look at Hyunjin that you interpreted to mean ‘get rid of the possible saesang, you idiot’. With an awkward chuckle and while rubbing the back of his neck, Hyunjin said, “Listen, I’m sorry. But I’ve got to get in to work. Do you mind if I take you home now?”
“Of course. I completely understand.” There was a tense knot building in your belly the whole quiet ride to your apartment. You didn’t know why Hyunjin wasn’t speaking, but you were planning what you knew you had to say in your head, twisting your fingers in the hem of your shirt.
Parking outside your apartment building, Hyunjin turned to you with a small smile. “If it’s not too much, I, um, was wondering if I could get your number?”
“Absolutely,” you rattled the digits off for him before popping open the passenger side door. You figured it would be easier to tell him what you had to say with the clear indication that you were going to leave.
“Wait, let me give you mine as well.”
“No,” you shook your head. “You use that if you still want to after what I tell you.” You sighed, disappointed that this was the way your interaction with Hyunjin would end. But then, if you’d said something last night, maybe you wouldn’t have gotten to know him a little. You avoided looking at him, staring out the windshield, one foot already out of his car. “First off, I need you to know that I did genuinely have a really good time with you yesterday. But I lied. By omission, but still a lie. I know who you are, Hyunjin. I knew the second I saw you at the gallery. But I decided not to say anything because you looked like you were trying to keep a low profile, so I didn’t want to break that I guess. When I came up to you, I truly just wanted to hear your thoughts on the photographs.
“And then it felt… I dunno, weird and awkward to say anything after we’d been talking for an hour. And the longer we talked, the weirder it felt to say anything. But the longer we talked, the more I knew I couldn’t not say something. Anyway, I’m really sorry. I understand if you feel like I’ve taken advantage or something. I didn’t mean to and would never do that on purpose. I won’t say anything about where you guys live or anything like that. And I didn’t take any photos either. I just… I dunno,” you shook your head, tears unexpectedly starting to form.
“Thank you, for the long conversation last night. Thank you for being so sweet to me. I am so sorry for lying to you. Good-bye.” You hurried out of his car and up the stairs to your second floor apartment, not looking over the railing into the parking lot. You collapsed against your door once shut into your apartment, sliding down it to the floor, staring blankly into your living space as tears slowly fell. Maybe it was stupid, but it felt like you’d broken up with someone you didn’t actually want to break up with.
Down in the parking lot, Hyunjin just stared after you, frozen in place as he watched you close your door. He wasn’t sure how long he sat there, gobsmacked and confused, when his phone started ringing. Chan, wanting to know why he was running late to the studio.
Life returned to as close to normal as you were going to get after that. You couldn’t quite shake the post-breakup feeling, the feeling that you’d lost something special before you’d even had it. But you tried to move on, tried not to dwell too much on the side of Hyunjin – the sweet, quiet artist – you’d gotten to know. You avoided the gallery for about a week until you got a call from your agent who worked with that gallery and who’d gotten you a small contract with a magazine as long as you could fly out to India the next morning. You set up everything with your neighbor Mrs. Namgung to get your mail and keep an eye out, packed up, and were gone for the next week.
***
It wasn’t unusual for Hyunjin to be easily distracted, and Changbin had filled the others in on the mysterious woman who’d slept at their place one night. But it was unusual for him to still be this distracted by someone he hadn’t even spoken to in more than a week. He’d told them what the woman had said when he dropped her off, told them the way she’d said it – that she’d been blunt, seemed honest, and hadn’t been able to look at him the whole time. Added to it, their security hadn’t seen her, hadn’t noticed any new stalkers, and there hadn’t been anything online from her.
He couldn’t get past the idea that they could’ve had something special. Maybe not a romantic relationship, even if that’s the way he felt it was going. He couldn’t shake the idea of still wanting to explore that connection with her. But the more days passed, the more awkward he felt about texting or calling her.
Then, encouraged by his members, he drove back to her apartment. Maybe a little pushy, a little invasive, but they all figured she’d understand.
He knocked on the door he watched her walk through and waited. Then knocked again. A few seconds later, an old woman stepped out of the apartment next door.
“Are you looking for Y/N?”
“I am. Is she not home?”
Her neighbor smiled a little. “She’s out of the country for work. India this time, I think she said. She’ll be back in two days if you want to come back then.”
“I don’t….” he shook his head a little, confused as to what work she was doing and then realizing work was the one topic they hadn’t touched on.
“Oh, are you the young man who dropped her off after her gallery opening last week?” When he nodded, the old woman smiled. “It was very sweet of you to bring her home. Did you enjoy her work?”
That statement made him realize that the photographs in the gallery that he’d been so invested in was her work and that they had talked about it. “I did, quite a lot. Um, you said she’ll be home in two days?” The old woman nodded. “Thank you, ma’am. I’ll um, I’ll talk to her then, I guess.” He bowed respectfully, turned and headed back to his car.

Travel always wore you out, even if the destination was gorgeous. You trudged up your apartment building’s steps, deciding you would speak to Mrs. Namgung after a nap. You stopped, surprise instantly waking you up, when you saw a deliveryman taking a photo of the flower delivery he’d obviously just set in front of your apartment door. Who on earth would be sending you flowers?
You waited a second, until the deliveryman started toward you, before heading the rest of the way to your door. You stared down at the mixed bouquet – roses, lilies, daisies, and tulips in every color – wondering who would send it and why. Setting your suitcases just inside your door, you scooped up the flowers, noticing the card tapped to the vase for the first time. Thankfully, you sat down to read it, because the surprise of it would’ve knocked you to your butt if you hadn’t been.
Hello Y/N. Your neighbor said you’d be back today, so I hope there were no travel delays or anything. It felt awkward to text or call you after so long so I decided to try this.
Thank you for the night at the gallery. For not saying you knew who I was. It made it easier I think to get to know you. I didn’t feel like I had to “be on” I guess. I could just be myself instead of being what I think people expect me to be all the time. And thank you for telling me the truth later, even though it was awkward.
I’m going to be at SeMA tomorrow around 12 pm for the Impressionism exhibition. If you want. I mean, you don’t have to or anything. Just, if you want to.
You stared at his name for a while, no longer remotely tired. As it had so many times since that night, your mind raced back over the details of the night of your gallery opening. Seeing him admiring your photos, the bubble of excitement when you recognized him, the way that bubble hadn’t really popped but had quietly shrunk down to a manageable level as you talked to him. The late night walk and stop for food after the gallery closed, the animated way he talked about things he enjoyed or excited him. His realization that you were close to his apartment building and his offer to continue the conversation in his living room. Sitting across from him on his couch, eyes getting droopy until he led you to his bed and told you he’d sleep on the couch. The awkwardness of your confession the next morning.
And now, he wanted to see you again. He hadn’t said it in those exact words, but that was clearly what he meant by telling you where he’d be and when.
The loud rap on your door brought you back to the present. You hurried over to see Mrs. Namgung with a stack of your mail in her hands and her ever-present smile. After a little small talk and catching up on your trip, she spotted the flowers on your table.
“Are those from your young man?”
“He’s not my man, Mrs. Namgung,” you said with a little smile that was sadder than you realized.
“Oh darling girl,” she shook her head with a patronizing smile. “I’d wager he would be happy to be. He looked so sad when I told him you weren’t home the other day. And now he sends you roses?” she clicked her tongue, a knowing look in her eyes.
“Mrs. Namgung,” you tried to deflect but didn’t quite know what to say. Before you could come up with something, she reached out and patted your arm.
“Take it slow if you must, but don’t shut anything down before you know what it could be. Now, my Eun-ji should be calling soon so I’ll be on my way back in.” You smiled and thanked her again before she turned back to her apartment.
Back in your apartment, you fretted over Hyunjin’s note and flowers. He wanted to see you again. But was Mrs. Namgung right? Did he want more from you? Had he also felt those moments in the gallery, on your walk, on his couch when it felt like more than just new friends? When it felt like the perfect movie moment to lean in for a kiss, even though neither of you had. Had he felt the same butterflies when the backs of your hands brushed each other? Had he been fighting sleep on his couch just to spend more time together like you had?
In the midst of your fretting, the travel exhaustion caught up with you and you dropped off to sleep, sitting up on your couch and clutching the note Hyunjin had written.
You were woken at far-too-early in the morning by your phone ringing. Stiff from the way you’d slept, it took a few minutes to find and answer it, long enough for whoever it was to go to voicemail and call back again. After putting out the metaphorical fire that was the magazine editor complaining about the size of the files you’d sent the day before, you slumped back against the couch, eyes starting to drift closed again until you caught sight of the bouquet and jolted back up.
Checking your phone, you saw it really wasn’t early – it was 9 am. You scrambled up off the couch, wincing because of the way you’d slept. After a very hot shower to relax couch-sleep muscles, you stared into your closet. What exactly did one wear to meet with Hwang Hyunjin at an art museum? Shaking your head, you approached the issue a little differently. What would one wear on a date with the quiet painter you’d gotten to know, not the idol?
You dressed comfortably, though a little more dressed up from your day-to-day style, with flat-soled shoes that would be comfortable to stand and walk in all day. You styled your hair, did your makeup, and were out the door with time to spare.
You arrived at the Seoul Museum of Art at about 11:30. Earlier than Hyunjin said, but it was better than pacing nervously at home while you waited. You stepped into the hall where the special exhibition Impressionism collection was being shown. Your fingers twisted together with nerves as you stared at what the placard next to it told you was a painting by Claude Monet. You weren’t really seeing it, too nervous as you waited.
Then there was a gentle touch on your low back and you turned to see Hyunjin standing slightly behind you with a red rose in hand. “I wasn’t sure you would come,” he said with a soft smile.
You accepted the rose and returned his smile. “I figured you weren’t going to reach out at all, so I guess we’re both surprised.”
“Pleasantly, I hope?”
“Definitely,” your smile widened to a full grin.
“Your neighbor said that was your gallery opening?”
“Mm-hm,” you nodded. “I freelance, and mostly nature photography like landscapes and weather systems, not wildlife. Or, not intentionally wildlife anyway,” you grinned again, thinking of one of the photographs in your opening that centered on Atlantic puffins. “Sometimes the animals decide that’s where my focus should be, not on the aurora I was meant to be capturing.”
Hyunjin nodded his understanding. “You do beautiful work.”
“Thank you. I’ve seen some of your art, so do you.” You did your best to hide your excitement at the blush creeping over his cheeks, before he shyly dipped his head.
Instead of responding, he offered you his hand. You laced your fingers with his and let him lead you around the exhibit, sharing some of his favorite pieces and why they were. The pair of you stayed in the museum for the rest of the day, and you at least were surprised when the announcement came that the museum was closing.
You walked to the parking garage together, then to your car, fingers still laced. Hyunjin’s thumb rubbed against the back of your hand and you could tell he was as reluctant for the day to end as you were.
So you said, “I figure I owe you for letting me sleep at your house. So, what do you say you come to mine and I’ll make us dinner?”
He grinned wide. “That sounds perfect. I’ll meet you there?” At your nod, he lifted your hand and gently kissed your knuckles before finally letting go and turning to walk to his car. You watched him for a minute before getting into your car.
Once he was what you deemed far enough away, and with you shut into your car, you let loose the loud squeal of joy that had been building in your chest all afternoon, fists beating against your steering wheel and all.
You made it to your apartment at about the same time, waving at the knowing look from Mrs. Namgung as she left her apartment.
You expected the rest of the night to be just as easy as the afternoon and the first day you’d met had been. What you didn’t expect was for Hyunjin to gently tug your hand to get you to face him, and kiss you. Once you were facing him, he stepped into your space, his free hand coming up to cup your cheek. His eyes flicked down to your lips, thumb brushing over your cheek when his gaze came back up to search yours. Slowly, giving you more than enough time to back away, he leaned in and gently pressed his lips to yours.
Your hand tightened around his, the other coming up to grip his shirt at his waist, as he deepened the kiss just a little. Just enough to leave you wanting more when he did pull back.
“I’ve been dying to do that all day,” he said with a soft smile.
“You feel free to do that whenever you want,” you said without thinking, immediately flushing when your words registered with your brain.
He chuckled a little. “Mm, I think I will.”
