On the other hand, Slayers Great is a lot of fun, albeit one of the silliest installments in the anime adaptations. It really highlights the Bugs Bunny vs Daffy Duck style friendship Lina and Naga have going on.
The two OVA miniseries are still good fun, too. Naga's intelligence is as variable as Gourry's, and it's a shame we never got to see her properly meet him and Zel in the anime.
Even she's blown away by how stupid Jeffery is, though. And the weird walk animation of his 'Royal Guard' is so fucking funny?? I need to figure out how to make a gif just for this.
Interestingly, the line from the Dark Knight in the same episode and then some skanky random dude in the next one are the only times in any of the anime productions that anyone expresses disregard or disbelief in women being powerful. No one else ever says 'you're good for a woman/even though you're a woman' or 'how could a GIRL have defeated me?' or anything in that vein. Characters are underestimated for being human, for not having magic, for acting totally undignified, or in Lina's case for being unusually tiny and resembling a child, but for the most part, women and girls in the Slayers world seem to be given equal regard to the men in terms of capability and accepted roles in society.
Also worthy of mention from the OAVs is the utterly intolerable spoiled rich girl realizing she's into FemDoms when Naga slaps the shit out of her. Slayers mostly avoids the needless sexual jokes common to a lot of wacky 90s anime, but now and then it throws out a really funny one.
