Thank you! Basilisk is unique, brought together from a freak happenstance in the conceptual plane coinciding with freak happenstance in the physical (snake egg incubated by a rooster). This is a rare, but by no means unheard-of occurrence - another example of a unique being is Leviathan and I'm sure there are more out there!

KJSFDJS YEAH i cant draw it well rn bc I don’t have like. a good, solid design for it but it’s basically like this

its a bunch of segments that grow out of it and normally just look like a regular torn fin (not. not drawn well here at all) and then when it tenses up it pulls all the fragments together and locks them in place to make a blade
