wait, uh. who tf is this?! 

hi, it’s me. it’s nicole. and i’d like to introduce you to gideon prewett 2.0—AKA merrick wilder. 

with a new year here, i’ve done some reflecting on the stories that i want to tell and came to the realization that when it came to gideon, i was far more interested in who he is versus any canonical milestones this role needed to reach. so i reached out to beth and rae (i’m sure they’ll have updates to share with you soon), and agreed to help me shift gideon into an original character. 

so, who the fuck is merrick wilder? 

he is, by and large, gideon prewett! minus the order stuff, and some adaptions here and there. merrick still went to puddlemere, then graduated from hogwarts as a gryffindor in the herbology cohort, class of 1979. he’s still going back to hoggy for a postgraduate degree. and he’s still working on opening a bakery with his twin brother sometime this year in addition to being the WBN’s weatherman. 

BUT, there are some updates that i want to put on your radar—

you can peep all the changes in his backstory here, but some important things that i want to note are: 

merrick is not affiliated with the order of the phoenix, nor was he ever recruited by dumbledore 

he has a son named otis, who will be 4 this year, with NPC mum (who’s very close with merrick!) 

merrick and gawain robards started dating in 1979, but began drifting from each other in late 1980. they mutually decided to call it quits at the end of december last year. so, merrick is single. 

merrick’s faceclaim is logan lerman. 

i know, i know. why so much change, nicole?? i get it. after some self reflection, i wanted to be honest with myself that my interest in harry potter is pretty low these days. not vanished, but it’s not where it used to be. the things i love most about writing gideon are things that i’ve created in collaboration with you, and not hp specific. so i wanted to take this character that i love writing and figure out how to make him my oc. i love writing with y’all, i love telling stories in this space, so i wanted to figure out a way to do that while honoring this new chapter for me. so here we are! 

so are you going to change your other characters, too?? at this time, no. i like where they’re at, i don’t feel moved to adapt them. but never say never, idk!! 

if you have questions, concerns, desperately need clarification, please reach out to me. unlike simply changing a.j.’s name, this is a massive adaptation and i know i’ve probably missed details. don’t be a stranger, ask me whatever is on your mind.

hello hello hello--

this seems to be the time for tweaking things, so you may have noticed I decided to go ahead and do that for ted!!

the changes i’m making are just some background, education & career tweaks. his personality remains the same and any relationships he may have can remain the same, too!

the changes are as follows:

the biggest change: nymphadora is no longer a year-old baby but rather, in keeping with her canon age, a fully grown child with features (eight years old ish)

this means his story with andromeda is also different. he and andromeda are somewhat estranged and distant, and he’s mainly kept in touch with her to keep in touch with nymphadora as andromeda has taken charge as far as raising her. 

ted no longer studied ancient runes but rather charms. more specifically he pursued a career path in magical coding and programming (ie. how to make iFlown apps, but also making something like the iFlown to begin with)

ted currently works as a repairman in a shop specializing in magical tech where you might take a malfunctioning iFlown and also any other sort of tech? like the wireless radios they use, and even muggle things like televisions and record players, etc. a catch all for wizarding and muggle tech, and a place where you can also buy secondhand, but repaired, tech. it would be located in appleby. 

i aged him up a year and changed his birthday, but his grad year from hogwarts remains the same

his modified bio is already up as the pinned post and i think i took care of updating most things on his about page with the relevant info and changes. hit a girl up with anything, otherwise, let’s gooooo

Key Points

TW: Alludes to abuse. Jonah was raised by a single mother who he thanks his lucky stars escaped a not so great situation. Jonah very barely remembers anything about his father, what he does remember is how he made him feel. He remembers that once it was just him and his mother, he finally knew what it was to feel happy and safe.

This has shaped his character in many ways, first and foremost tries to show kindness to those who deserve it, and second, that if he ever has children of his own, they will know nothing of what it was like for him as a child.

Jonah runs the local bookshop in Cardiff and while he does really enjoy his job and all the discourse it brings with his bi-weekly book club, but wants to do more to help impact his community for the better.

Bit of a wild card outside of work. Doesn’t look to start fights but will end them. *insert audio: six feet tall and super strong* but he’s 6’2” so even better ☺️

Lowkey a musician. Has a band but they mostly practice in the bookstore after hours. They’ve done a few small gigs here and there but Jonah does a LOT of songwriting in his spare time. Jonah is a sucker for a music festival though.

Curious about wixen now that they are out in the open.

as Jen is transitioning into a new chapter of her life/an area i’ve never gotten to completely explore, I’ve come to realize India’s gifs don’t translate well for what Jennifer’s current headspace/attitude/or even aesthetic is at the moment. girl is going through some MASSIVE overhaul changes in her life, as what may happen when you’re having abomination twins<3

when I first created Jennifer, I used Jessica Lowndes and as I explored a lot of the gifs I used to use years and years ago, I realize they just fit my vision waaaaaay, waaaay better. understandably, Jessica is definitely older LOL! only 5 years older than India, but it does make a difference. I will mostly be using gifs of Jessica’s from the years 2008-2016 when Jessica was 20-28 which is the age India is in the majority of her gifs I use now, so!!!!

that being said, while Jennifer believes she was born in 1959, she was born sooner. the specifics of when, her true age, and the explanation as to why she doesn’t know will come at a later time cuz hey why not make this fc change more fun LOL<3

also........... as it has been pointed out, girl has done a lot of fuckin’ drugs for years. they have probably just caught up with her finally oopsers 

i know the rpc is super against using FCs that aren’t the proper age, but i know we’re all just writers here and when we see a vision, we want it to translate the best we can so i know y’all won’t be super judgyyy<33

Ella was given a costume, a mermaid of sorts, but beautiful and ethereal instead of the real mermaids of her world, dark and spindly, vicious when provoked. No, this was colorful and full of life, and she was tasked to find her match. After making a few adjustments she found herself presentable and entered the party to mingle with her new sisters in the Junior Witches League and to find her match.

here’s some stuff about my girl; betty huxley

The first time Betty exhibited signs of magic she was 6 years old. It went relatively unnoticed because all she did was make her breakfast disappear. Her mother insisting she eat her porridge and Betty hating every second of it, when her mothers back was turned, it simply vanished.

Betty is the product of a first generation Italian Brit father and a Mexican mother. To say they were shocked when a wizard from the ministry showed up explaining away the peculiar things Betty had been doing as a result of underage magic was quite the shock seeing as both sides of Betty’s family were very catholic. It took some time for her mother and father to grow used to the idea of their daughter being a witch, but with time they learned to look at it as a blessing rather than a curse.

Betty is fascinated by Obscurials. Had her parents not accepted her she knows it could have been all too possible that she may have become one.

Betty is a waitress at the Three Broomsticks and one of her regulars, a resident of Hogsmeade, Agnes Nutt, found out she attends the Auror Academy and roped her into a case against one of her tenants. Agnes Nutter, as some of the other residents call her, believed her tenant was keeping a magical beast in her flat against the code of conduct and because of this, Betty now has an unintentional feud going on with said tenant  

Betty had to work harder than most to keep with the curriculum at her primary school having come from muggle schools, and because of this she has an extraordinary work ethic, if only her mouth didn’t get her into so much trouble.

About:

Gilderoy comes from a family where him and his mother are the only ones with magical abilities. His father is a muggle and his older sisters are Squibs. His mother adored him more than any of his sisters, and this, combined with his wizardry and admittance at the London School of Witchcraft, fueled his vanity like a weed. But in their excitement, Gilderoy and his mother forgot that London School of Witchcraft was a schools for all British and Irish wizards, and thus his entrance to this school with the rest of the students, was in his opinion, incredibly uninteresting.

Gilderoy attended London School of Witchcraft when he was fourteen and had a pretty good idea of what he had expected when he arrived there. It was not at all like he imagined. He had hoped for stares and whispers, because he saw himself as a full-fledged genius with great magical capability, and he was pretty capable - his talents would improve over time - but he was as average as any witch or wizard in his year at the time.

Gilderoy is resourceful and uses his charm and good looks, alongside his flirtatious nature to get what we wants. He flirts with everyone and is pretty harmless, he wouldn't force himself on anyone and finds the idea of that disgusting.

Gilderoy was sorted into Ravenclaw, he narrowly avoided being sorted into Slytherin (which isn't surprising). He valued learning (which was one of the reasons he was in Ravenclaw) but not for the reasons some might think. He wanted to do well in his academics so when he graduated from Hogwarts he had something to do until he figured out the fame and fortune thing.

hi!!!!! the most obvious surprise to ever happen in the history of surprises. hello, i am back once more, i am so sorry.

here’s just a quick breakdown over the boy, there’s prob more i’m forgetting but

collector of rare objects/artifacts. no of course i’m not foreshadowing the locket

not yet a part of the death eaters. heavy sympathizer tho, mostly because he’s very pliable and has blind faith in the people still in his life.

terrified of open water. definitely not foreshadowing his eventual death.

has epilepsy. first seizure was when he was 12, and while it’s mostly manageable he keeps a journal writing down any potential triggers if he does have one. this isn’t known to anyone except family.

+ bit of a journal writer in general, even if it isn’t necessarily keeping track of seizures. also loves letter writing!! more than happy to have a penpal 

soft spoken, goes-with-the-flow, works hard to not cause a stir. if you are thinking about sirius, think the opposite, and that’s regulus.
