How's your writing coming along? Haven't talked to you in a while so I thought I'd ask :)
It’s coming along. Albeit slowly. Hahaha. Tumblr is the absolute worst when it comes to distracting you. It just…claims your soul and then any time you try to get away you can’t. Reblogging things is just so addictive XD
I got the Yosemite update for my computer which hopefully will save me! Now I don’t have to be online to write if I want to do that on the computer (I prefer doing my mass editing on the computer because I can just see everything easier than I can on my iPad).
I am also doing NaNoWriMo and I’m so nervous and excited about it XD
sleepypumkin replied to your post:Well I wrote the thing
This is so awesome and I love it!
Since I can't make gifs here is my textual version of a dancing Kirby.

Average hours of sleep I get each night: lately I've been getting about 5 hours
The last thing I Googled was: It was either '3rd eyelids' or 'petsmart careers' or 'petco careers' lol
My most used phrase on Tumblr(s): I use LOL and OMG quite a bit...
First word that comes to mind: Fathers (as in comparisons...)
What I last said to a family member: I made it 10 starts and stops without stalling the car! (My dad is teaching me how to drive a standard lol)
One place that makes me happy &why: My room tends to make me happy because I can shut out distractions and get stuff done
How many blankets I sleep under: It depends. Right now I can barely manage to sleep under my comforter.
Favorite beverage(s): Chai Tea Latte (I'm craving one so much right now lol)
The last movie I watched in the cinema: TMNT and I loved it! I haven't had a chance to see it again but I had so much fun

A piece of advice for all my followers: Be yourself. The right people will love you for it and if people walk out on you then let them. They aren't worth your time and energy anyway.

sleepypumkin replied to your post:Finally got around to reading your response to the fanfic ask questions (I'm sorry that was like two days ago now) and was just thinking something, why do people prefer multi-chapter fics to one-shots? Because I have read some pretty good one-shots in my time. (its a stupid question but its just made me think is all)
Yeah when you put it like that I guess it does make sense. Thanks for the reply though :)
Haha. No problem. Thanks for the question :) Although now that I look back on it I rambled a lot. Sorry about that.
Finally got around to reading your response to the fanfic ask questions (I'm sorry that was like two days ago now) and was just thinking something, why do people prefer multi-chapter fics to one-shots? Because I have read some pretty good one-shots in my time. (its a stupid question but its just made me think is all)
I think it’s because they are longer. …I think. I don’t really get it myself. But if you look at the difference between the response one-shots get compared to the response multi-chapters get it’s pretty clear that something is turning people away from the idea of one-shots. I also saw on a facebook post that people actually turned away from one-shots because they were “just one-shots”.
There are people who get around this by making a story a “collection of one-shots”. I’ve seen it happen with a lot of fanfiction writers. They publish something and in the summary they will state “Just a collection of one-shots, drabbles, etc” and each chapter will be a completely different story. That seems to attract more people (I’ve found) than just the average one-shot.
For an example, my one shot that I called “To Save a Friend” (I was inspired by a tumblr post about Of Rats and Men - someone had a headcanon as to why they believed Leo was late in that episode) it got…2 reviews and 1 favorite. I’ll admit it’s not my best work, but it was fun to write. But if you compare it to my very first fanfiction ever “Ten Seconds to Disaster” (which to this day fills me with a mixture of glee and dread because I’m a better writer now than I was when I wrote that - even if just by a little lol) it has 54 reviews and 20 favorites. Now to be fair it has 14 chapters. But it’s a huge difference.
I’m not saying my writing is worthy of having as big a following as a lot of really great writers here have. I know I’m new. I know I’m not incredible. I make mistakes a lot. My brain spins up crazy things halfway through my story and I am left wondering how the heck I’m supposed to tie it all in together 3 chapters later. But I’m learning how to make things better.
As far as I can tell one-shots do seem to be looked down upon somewhat. Maybe people think that they don’t take as much work and thus aren’t as exciting? Maybe people want longer stories to read? Maybe people don’t want to be invested in something that they know isn’t going to have a continuation? I have no clue.
I know I could do the same thing as other writers do (publish a collection of one-shots) if I really wanted to but it doesn’t sit well with me. I feel like a story should end when it’s complete, not flow right into a completely different plot. But that’s just me. I have nothing against the people who do that. It’s just not something I want to do.
Thanks for the question! :)
Fullmetal Alchemist (for the fandom ask thing) :)
Ooh. FMA. I could talk for hours about that anime. Thank goodness I have a list of topics XD
The first character I fell in love with: Alphonse Elric (he loves animals!!!) The character who is my ‘baby’: Edward Elric (how can you not love his face?) The character who I do not understand: Dante (like seriously…wtf?) The character that I think the show ruined: the Shamballa movie completely ruined Hughes.., The most attractive male and female character: Roy Mustang and Olivier Mira Armstrong The character death that was the worst for me: Maes Hughes!!! The character that is the most like me: Winry Rockbell The character I think the writer(s) love: Scar…or Envy The character that I just want to be happy: Hohenheim My four favorite characters, past or present: Edward, Alphonse, Greed and Roy My four least favorite characters, past or present: that Nazi lady from CoS, both of the siblings in Star of Milos (I know their last name is Creighton or something like that), the guy who looked like Loki in SoM
Yes…I wasn’t overly fond of the characters in SoM…or in CoS…
