Alright I found a question asking for Wicca resources, so I dug my list of surprisingly good books and then lost the question (curse you facebook mobile).
So here’s the list instead.
TL; DR, STAY AWAY FROM ARIN CHAMBERLAIN, REDE LITERALLY MEANS ADVICE AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO FOLLOW IT ALL THE FUCKING TIME, THE RULE OF THREE MAKES NO SENSE.
"Maiden Moon: An Advanced Wicca 101" by Simon Craft
Maiden Moon is such a great book, especially if you're just starting off. His mostly acerbic humour is fantastic, especially since he actually does do what he claims to do, which is lay down the basics of Wicca. It's especially hard to find something that actively mentions the more strict traditions, such as Gardnerian and Alexandrian Wicca.
Also, he mentions “Dragon Tradition Wicca”, which is a tradition he’s a part of (founded?) but isn’t around anymore.
The copyright of the book doesn’t ban us from sharing it online so here (no that’s not my wordpress)
“A Wiccan Bible: Exploring the Mysteries of the Craft from Birth to Summerland" by A. J. Drew
It's an entirely different take on the concept of Wicca than I had expected. The name had made me shy away for awhile, expecting a second Arin Chamberlains, but it is genuinely an in depth look into the religion. It brings to attention concepts, that while I don't always agree with, are certainly worth looking into.
Most importantly, he shows you why he came to this conclusion. YES
"A Witches’ Bible: The Complete Witches’ Handbook” by Janet and Stewart Farrar; or even just “The Witches Way”
I haven’t finished reading it yet, but it has definitely piqued my interest. Mainly because of how it’s very centric around the idea that “this way works, but its not the only one” which almost encourages you to cut and paste around what makes sense to you and what doesn’t.
“Living Wicca” and “Wicca for the Solitary Practitioner” by Scott Cunningham
If the above book almost encourages you to cut and paste, then this one has a neon sign for it. I’m putting both books as one item because it’s practically the same book but written twice. Which is a good thing because it helps put different things in perspective.
DO NOT read it as your introduction to Wicca, because it assumes you already have the basics down pat. Read another 101 (multiple preferably),before reading this, because then you’re stuck with “what’s important”. Then consider that Scott Cunningham died in 1993. He died 30 years ago, and that means at least some of this content is heavily outdated.
Now we've got Mark pissed at the drama of this community.
Because of the bullies that had ruined the peace of this fandom.
That man has done so much for us,
He has put in his time and effort for this community,
a family he would defend with his own life because we all
support and love him, for he's just one man, and people have been
causing drama that has ruined not only the peace of this tag, but also
lives of people, by driving all of us batshit crazy.
You all should be ashamed!
(I'm speaking to the ruder ones, not the kinder Markiplites like ericaplier.)
I have ALWAYS been an advocate for Anti-bullying, because when i was younger,
i was bullied constantly because of my weight, my opinion, my looks, the way i acted...
and i promised myself once i graduated to help people avoid being bullied,
to stop the pain of harmful words and actions, and to help people see that life isn't all bad!
And now look...
Our fandom needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.
We need to help Mark see his dream of a better world appear sooner than later.
So please, Stop the bullying, stop the hate, stop the drama, Let's get our
community back up to it's former glory. It's time we started spreading the love,
the peace, the happiness back to everyone and get back to where we once were.
Because he has poured his heart, his sweat, tears, screams, laughter, EVERYTHING into this
family of Markiplites, We have become Markiplier's Heroes.
It's time we defeated the Villain called Drama, with it's henchmen Pain and Suffering,
and become the Heroes once again.
No more hate.
Please.
No more Drama.
I beg of you.
No more getting Mark pissed off.
Don't you agree?
That's all i have to say.
Just, let's make this world better for everyone.
Let's give more than we have taken.
If you wanna talk to me, just shoot me a message and we'll talk.
This is a Safe Blog, No drama, No Bullying, no anger. Just talk to me, and it'll all be ok. <3
It amazes me everyday how much ignorance exists around me. Every way of life has its bad points and people who abuse its doctrines. Judging off of just those bad points would lead to a hatred of all things. Sometimes I wish everybody would realize that the people aren't the problem.
//So I realized this week when I was at work, I might be a little too aprehensive about long term ship type things. Main reason? Past experience dictates that I tend not to be the sort of person that people like. Sure I'm told otherwise, but when I actually put in the effort, truly put in the effort, I get fucked over. They stop logging on, delete, move to a new site, completely ignore me and act like I don't exist when I try to talk, or any combination of the above. Naturally, worries about this is kinda ruining my ability to accommodate to other people. It's not too bad to want to worry about me and what I want for once right? Cause doing otherwise hasn't worked out too well.
there comes a fucking point where i just want to unfollow you because you're annoying the shit out of me.
but you're actually a really cool person, it's just been recently that i've wanted to hang myself over the crap you post.
i'm horrible but i don't care. my personal tumblr is the one place where i'm supposed to be happy and unannoyed because everywhere else i'm treated like shit.
I'm only a religious person around Christmas because somehow it always manages to make me feel better. I honestly believe that's the only reason why religion is a good thing. It makes some people feel better. I just wish it made everyone feel better.
Every other time of the year religion just makes me feel like shit, so I ignore it until November.
It annoys me so much when I explain why i'm a vegetarian and they just think i'm trying to 'convert' them. People comment on it like they can say they don't like how I eat and then expect me not to say I don't like how they eat either. I don't know if i'm just tired or what but right now this makes me so, so angry. I can't see anything from the point of view of a person who enjoys eating flesh.
