“I can't ease your problem without facing trouble, so use the back door and get out of here before cops show up.” Legal assistant Summer McBride warned veteran Terry Richmond while joining this federal space.

“Okay.” Exhausted for several reasons, Terry stepped back and walked this route to leave the establishment. There's just no other choice.

Soon enough, clicking heels signaled Richmond's attention as you moved right in front of him and headed toward the parking lot found outside.

Despite acknowledging much-needed composure, Richmond can't take another fail.

If you can't help the situation, Terry might never leave Shelby Springs.

“Excuse me?” Staying cordial, Richmond attempted to introduce himself without overreacting. “I'm sorry for interrupting, but I really need some help.”

“Well…I, damn! You're bleeding.” You immediately noticed that scarlet just painted his elbows right now. “Should I bring you to the hospital first?”

“No, Ma'am.” Terry said. “Thank you for the concern, though.”

“Depends on what you need. This town’s pretty small.” Your hands gestured around.

“Where's the police department? I'll file a report tomorrow.” Terry started somewhere.

“Not too far from here actually.” You've cleared your throat. “I'll write down the address. What's your name?”

“Terry.” Richmond said.

“Nice meeting you.” You've handed out this sticky note from the glove compartment.

“I appreciate your help.” His deep voice offered gratitude.

“Of course, but your injuries should be patched up as soon as possible.” Sliding the driver's seat, you closed that front door, but Terry wouldn't leave.

“Hey.” His unexpectedly striking gaze almost locked down your presence.

“Yes?” You wouldn't start the car and drive out right away.

His unexpected chuckle nearly shook up your mind.

“I need a favor.” Richmond's eyes almost darkened.

“Go on.” You remained intrigued. “I don't usually help strangers like this, but you look rough.”

“Could I stay with you for a little while?” Almost towering beyond height, Richmond walked closer.

“No girlfriend around here?” You quickly played back.

“Maybe I'm looking for one…” His voice teased again.

“If you weren't struggling, I would already refuse this idea. Come on.” Your hand welcomed Richmond to the passenger seat before you drove away.

“I'll drop you off at the police station this morning, but keep their address just in case.” You straightened up the guest room last night and Terry accepted limits.

“Thank you.” Terry gathered his weathered backpack, ready to join the commute.

“Why flirt with me yesterday?” You parked outside of this important yet fairly small building later.

“No sob story. I know better.” Terry kept his eyes glancing forward.

“Fair enough.” You dropped the subject and cut that engine, but Richmond nearly froze.

“Apologies, but you're beautiful.” Terry slipped.

“Thanks.” You just can't help smiling this time around.

By an unknown force, you each flamed this chemistry out of nowhere, somehow willing.

Right as you both leaned inward and your noses met, upcoming wheels moved along dirt.

“I gotta go.” Terry bit his lip while holding your cheek.

“Okay.” You watched Richmond leave the car when Officer Jessica Sims passed by.

Goodness. You thought.

“If you don't mind me asking, who's parked outside, Mr. Richmond?” Chief of Police Sandy Burne questioned Terry following his report.

“Someone dropped me off this morning, Sir.” Terry mentioned you without revealing personal details.

“Who is this?” Chief Burne started pulling curiosity.

“I'm sorry, but that's none of your business.” While never deciding to yell, Terry stood his ground and kept you private.

“Very well.” Burne settled the plan. “Come back here at 9:00 AM on Monday morning to see your cousin and we'll handle this dispute.”

“Thank you.” Richmond accepted details while standing, but heard Chief loud and clear seconds later.

“Now fuck off.” Burne's Southern accent revealed venom just before Richmond could leave.

“Yes, Sir.” Knowing better than to express frustration, Richmond nodded and gathered leftover cash to exit.

“Are you busy this weekend?” Closing the passenger seat door, Terry encouraged you drive out of here.

“No. What's the plan?” You asked.

“Long story short: The chief hates me now, but I can see my cousin on Monday morning.” Terry offered news without smiling.

“Good.” You've said, leaving that department behind.

“Ready?” For the first time since meeting Terry you grinned.

“Yes. Thank you.” Richmond never stopped expressing gratitude.

“Let's hurry. It's almost time.” You grabbed car keys and Terry followed your move again, prepared to end this nightmare.

“You're three minutes late.” Chief Burne grumbled while sporting this hat outdoors the bus already left.

Both of you exchanged glances, but Terry left the car and sought his bike, immediately turning away from your path.

“T, dammit!” Punching gas, you nearly sped off the same direction.

Despite missing the transfer bus, you noticed that Terry cornered his bike near this woodland area.

“Stay in the car.” Terry lowered his deep voice even more.

“Did you see Mike or not?” You brought up the obvious question.

“Yeah.” Richmond said.

“So much for teamwork.” You frowned while driving.

You raised the middle finger, but realized that Terry followed your direction home.

In the driveway, you slam that door, clicking your heels without making eye contact.

“I have nowhere else to go, all right?” Terry held your wrist to stop everything.

“Not my problem.” You snatched this hold away, but Richmond turned your body around once more and dared to meet kisses.

Upon realization, your own palms shoved him back, yet Terry didn't care, warm his lips toward your neck.

“If I make it out alive, go with me.” His words don't even scare you as Terry lifted your weight and carried this moment to the house.

You would never leave each other again.
