Mario Bros. (NTSC NES 1983) vs Mario Bros. Classic Serie (PAL NES 1993)
Name: Freezie
Debut: Mario Bros.
Remember when I acted like Fighter Fly was the last enemy we had yet to cover in Mario Bros? Well... I lied... or forgot. I’m not sure which, but I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me, because here’s Freezie! How can you not be filled with forgiveness after seeing Freezie? They may be ice, but they melt my heart!
I’m getting ahead of myself here... Freezie shows up after Stage 10 in Mario Bros, and unlike the other baddies, they’re not necessary to defeat to clear a stage. Instead, they’re more of a nuisance, because when they reach the center of a platform... they’ll freeze it! Not cool! And yeah, I don’t really need to tell you that frozen platforms aren’t fun. You’ve all played games. You’re all gamers.
Here’s a fun fact! In the original arcade game, they’re called Slipice! Okay, so it wasn’t very fun. But it is interesting that they kept their NES port name for all subsequent games... right? I’m not weird for being interested in these things, okay?
But enough about all that! I’m sure you all recognise Freezie first and foremost from their appearance in a certain little niche series called Super Smash Bros! It’s a rather odd choice for an item, yet it works very well- just whack someone with it and they’ll turn to ice! We have to be thankful for these kinds of things that give an otherwise obscure enemy a time to shine... I mean, would anyone really remember Hothead if it weren’t for Smash? (We would, but we’re a bit of an outlier...)
They were also in a couple of spin-offs during the GameCube era. This image is from a Wii U game, but you get me.I mainly just really like their design in Mario Kart 8- the blank white face really makes them extremely charming!
All in all, a simple but adorable enemy... That face just makes you want to comfort them! They’re just a bit confused, bless their little hearts.
New Paper Craft: Mario Bros. - Freezie Free Papercraft Download
New Papercraft has been published on PaperCraftSquare: Link: http://www.papercraftsquare.com/mario-bros-freezie-free-papercraft-download.html Paper Craft Name: Mario Bros. - Freezie Free Papercraft Download Description:
This Mario papercraft is a Freezie (Slipice), an enemy made entirely of ice that first appeared in the arcade game Mario Bros., the paper model was created by aardonix. Freezies vary greatly in size and shape, but are instantly recognizable thanks to their permanently puzzled expression. Occasionally, Freezies are used as items to freeze enemies. Despite being one of Mario's first enemies, they have only recently started appearing in games again.
In the original Mario Bros., Freezies emerge from pipes and travel along the stages' platforms. They first appear in Stage Nine. When a Freezie reaches the center of a platform, it will coat the entire platform with ice, destroying itself in the process. A frozen platform is very slippery. Thus, it is in Mario and Luigi's best interest to eliminate these enemies quickly, before they can freeze a platform. It can freeze the central floating platform and the two lower platforms above the bottom pipes. If all three platforms are frozen, no more Freezies will appear for that phase. Hitting a Freezie from below destroys it and awards the player five hundred points. Freezies don't count as regular enemies, meaning Mario and Luigi don't have to clear them from the stage to complete the level. If Mario or Luigi touch a Freezie, they will lose a life, but the Freezie will only reverse direction if encountering another enemy.
Freezie is the only recurring enemy from Mario Bros. that has kept its Nintendo Entertainment System name rather than its original Arcade name. [Source: Mariowiki]
