Slipper, 61, reportedly spent $1100 a day on expenses in the first half of this year, a total of $1.8 million since 2007, and police are said to be examining his parliamentary office expenditure. It’s not a pretty picture. Opposition leader Tony Abbott said last week that Slipper is now Julia Gillard’s problem. But he has been a Coalition MP for the past 18 years and represented the National Party in Queensland as long ago as 1984. If he’s so bad, why did they tolerate him for so long? And how many other MP expense accounts out there deserve the same level of scrutiny?
This is the first time I've read something from Miranda that actually criticizes Tony Abbott (though she's attacking the Liberals as whole, but Tony has been leader of the party for two years now so much of the blame has to be on his shoulders). Has she sniffed the wind and decided the tide is turning against him? I guess she doesn't want to go down with the ship, but in the past she's written as if Abbott is the second coming. She has the loyalty of Brutus for a woman obsessed with conservative values.
