To Catch a Thief by Sloane Steele

Counterfeit Capers #3

 Mia Benson had a plan to flush her father and uncle out then make them pay for their crimes. She drew a team to her to assist in the project that required a thief, computer hacker, forgery artist, fence and a great deal of nerve. Planning the perfect heist in a Robin Hood endeavor should work if all went well but what if an intriguing FBI undercover shows up and puts a  wrench in things?

 What I liked: * Mia: wealthy, focused, brilliant, arti curator, dedicated to bringing her father and uncle in for their crimes against others and  making amends to those they harmed.

* Logan: FBI agent, savvy, puzzle solver, raised in foster system, caress about his foster family, fun, charming, handsome, conflicted.

* Seeing how Mia’s team are doing and reading about how they accomplish their heists.

* Knowing that Mia is making inroads into achieving her goals

* The insight into how Logan and the FBI pursue the thieves

* The romance between Logan and Mia

* Meeting Logan’s foster family – wonder if there is a spin-off series that could be written about them

* Meeting a few other characters in the story that I wouldn’t mind hearing more about in a future book…if the author is so inclined.

* Hoping for a HEA for the two

* Wondering if London, the forger, is in a relationship or will have a story of her own.

 What I didn’t like:

* Knowing that there are men like Mia’s father and uncle scheming and conning and stealing for those unlucky enough to fall for their cons.

 Did I enjoy this book? Yes

Would I read more by this author? Yes

 Between Two Thieves by Sloane Steele

Counterfeit Capers #2

 Second chance romances don’t happen often in real life, but they do in stories and in this one two people are given a second chance…if they are willing to trust one another and take a chance. The stakes are high with the life of one man possibly at risk. Will they be able to work together and in so doing find their way to a HEA in the future?

 What I liked:

* Nikki: She knew when it was time to leave the dark path her father had led her down…and forge her own way…even if she didn’t opt for going straight.

* Wade: He stayed a bit too long but did eventually go straight and use his skills on the right side of the law.

* That Nikki and Wade still had chemistry after so many years apart.

* The growth exhibited by both main characters and the development of their relationship.

* The team Nikki works with, catching up with them, and wondering who will have their story next.

* Wondering if there will be a spin-off series for the men that work in Wade’s Security Firm.

* The twists and turns.

* Knowing that the reason for the heists is based in doing good – that Robin Hood element to the story.

* The way I was reminded of Oliver Twist though Dodger was really Finnegan in this story and the “pickpockets” a lot older when they met.

* That the bad guys (some of them) were caught.

 What I didn’t like:

* The manipulative nature of Nikki’s father and the people he worked for/with.

* What the fathers of Mia and Jared did, how they seem to have gotten away with it, and that they were not punished or held accountable – though Mia and Jared might bring them in eventually…or bring them to their knees.

* Having to wait for the next installment of the series.

 Did I enjoy this book? Yes

Did I like it as well as the first book? Not quite as much but I did like it

Would I read more in this series/by this author? Yes

It Takes a Thief by Sloane Steele

Counterfeit Capers #1

 Jarred and his cousin Mia have a plan they have waited years to implement. It is a bit Robin Hood-ish and meant to right wrongs perpetrated by their fathers. To achieve their goal they need some help, though. So, a few savvy women are hired to carry off a heist and in the process of perfecting the plans…a team is born, friendships are made, and romance is kindled. What more could one ask for in a book?

 What I liked:

* Jared/Jay: intelligent, focused, dedicated, strategist, secretive, warm, rich, problem solver/fixer, witty, likes Audrey

* Audrey: computer hacker, IT savvy, brilliant, loves her grandmother, hard worker, values honesty, likes Jared

* Mia: a bit stiff and by the rules, rich, has her guard up, prickly, rules oriented, focused, intelligent, intriguing – can’t wait to read her book

* Nikki: thief, quirky, good friend, skilled at her job, adrenaline junkie, loves money, moral compass iffy, hope she has a book of her own

* London: counterfeiter, artist, quiet – still waters run deep, would like to learn more about her and hope she has a book

* Grandma: has Alzheimer, raised Audrey, the reason her granddaughter works so hard and is working to make ends meet.

* The plot and future books to look forward to

* The way the three women worked together to solve problems

* The friendship that developed

* The growth exhibited in characters

* That the couple has a HFN ending

* Knowing that there are more books to look forward to

 What I didn’t like:

* The fathers of Mia and Jared and what they did

* That it took me more time to engage with the story than I thought it would

 Did I enjoy the book? Yes

Would I read more in the series? Yes
