My mom doesn’t want to get a heater for my (soon to be) mantis tank cause it might melt the ikea shelf it’s on
ok but assuming that’s an out-of-the-water-bug type of mantis then I kinda understand that. There is a remote chance that an under-tank pad heater thing could malfunction and like mayyyybe it could get hot enough to melt something ( i know those heating rock things do it sometimes)
but with an underwater heater it’s really not even a worry? like in order to melt a plastic tank it would not only have to malfunction and heat up the tank WAY too much (more than i think the voltage would let it tbh) but it would have to heat it for a really long time to get the water hot enough to melt the plastic. it would basically have to be boiling (or higher than boiling, depending on the plastic). even if it malfunctioned and tried it’s hardest I dont think a 10 gallon heater could melt a plastic tank filled with water.
water has such a high specific heat that it’s really a non-issue imo.
