i think if you have issues with neopronouns but don't see any issues with using certain slurs because "they don't count" then i think you need to have a think about what words actually have a negative effect on you and others buddy

Offensive (to me), yes. A slur? Absolutely not.

There are a lot of white people who want to convince others it is because it waters down the true meaning and impact of slurs. Slurs aren't just mean words. Being on the receiving end of bigotry isn't simply "getting bullied."

Slurs are quite tied to power and systems of oppression. It is a form of hate speech. A slur seeks to achieve or remind the victim of an unjust power imbalance. It assigns "discourse roles" to the victim and the speaker with the intention of putting the victim "in their place" by assigning them a "subordinate" social role (it also allows the speaker to assigns themselves a "dominant" social role so they can control the rules of social interaction as well as the target's public presence).

Slurs are intended to dehumanize, humiliate, silence, and disempower someone of a protected class. They are said with intent to harm, building upon the historical and contemporary context of social, political, and economic oppression and discrimination of the target group.

Slurs aren't 'just a word' and they aren't simply just mean words, either. Conflating them with terms that are simply mean or offensive is gross and careless.

If the word does not build on a historical or contemporary context of social, political, and economic oppression or discrimination, it cannot be a slur.

idk man i just think something's wrong with the school system if a girl can get in more trouble for showing too much leg than a guy got in for calling me slurs, threatening me with bodily harm and telling me that nobody would care if i was gone like wth he got 2 and a half days of suspension for calling me a "fucking f----- slut" and they promised he'd never be in any of my classes ever again but like who's in my first period class right now?? but i should also warn you that there’s a lot of slurs and a few bits that are transphobic via “men can’t get pregnant” and a section where a girl gets violently misgendered by an ass

just so you know. i love this series, i do, but for me, i had to grit my teeth through some bits. i wouldn’t want anyone to go in unprepared.

hey, if you ever post stuff in autism related tags or nonbinary related tags (especially about pronouns) I recommend preemptively blocking beefvellington. this person's blog description says "don't take anything I say seriously", but they are still reblogging lots of posts insulting people for their pronouns and every time they reblog a post about autism they basically repeat the same thing about it not being real and being a conspiracy. they are also quite fond of throwing around slurs, particularly the c-word and the n-word (prefixing it with trans, for some reason, and from what I gathered from their blog they're most likely white.)

I have no idea how potentially threatening this person is, they seem more like some bored kid just trying to piss people off, but regardless their behavior could very likely be triggering (especially with the slurs).
