She was perfect.

He had noticed her on the very first day she had stepped into Hogwarts, the way, even at the tender age of eleven, how she had carried herself with such poise, how she hadn’t beamed when the Sorting Hat gleefully called out “Slytherin”, but merely smiled, a small shadow of the radiance that she possessed.

She was brilliant.

He had seen firsthand just how clever she was, just how ambitious and practical and just brilliant, and had admired her even more. She excelled in school, did far better than Lucius himself had ever done, and he couldn’t even find it within himself to be jealous.

He had watched as she grew up, and he had never looked away.
