I gotta say, even though this wasn’t a major content patch by any means I did expect the climactic finale of the Battle for Azeroth War Campaign to take me longer than the length of about three cutscenes. The implications I think this new plot point gives off are incredibly exciting, even if the methods of conveyance used were a high quality yet bizarre wet fart.
I think it’s fairly obvious we all saw this one coming right? Sylvanas being deposed in one way or another and most of the horde being spared a Siege of Orgrimmar 2.0 situation. I do appreciate that they manage to convey really well just how little support Sylvanas has among the people by this point that even her own soldiers abandon her after her breakdown and dishonorable move, but frankly I don’t feel like we really earned this twist right? We weren’t really shown anything other than loyalty for most of this expansion, hell I've lost count of how many times I’ve had to deal with the most loyal mofo alive, Nathanos.
Disappointments in the rushed nature of it all aside, I love this idea of Sylvanas out there as a dangerous third party. Though I don’t really take much credence in WoW rumors, the impending faction merge is something I can pretty easily see, with both Sylvanas and the void serving as excellent foes to fight as a first real deal team up (Okay, well, maybe like the 7th?) between the old factions. My reaction to all this only reinforces my genuine belief that I can’t not be excited about World of Warcraft, even in the face of a genuinely bad story or plot point. I just love existing in this universe, and as long as it keeps chugging along i’ll always be there with an excited face and $15 being siphoned directly from my veins month in, month out, until the sun explodes.
