Please share some stories of how you have made the town you moved back to miserable.
I don't want to get too specific bc it's hard to maintain anonymity online when you one of five people doing stuff in a small town, but we've made some local homophobes and transphobes really angry just by getting allies together and having small events in public. Like it's remarkably easy to piss these idiots off. And that's scary bc this is West Virginia, they all have guns. But they're also cowards. They don't even show up. They'll be on Facebook like "come out in force to show the perverts how ungodly they are", and there's like 3 people with signs who get bored and wander away after yelling slurs for like 15 minutes. Meanwhile we're ignoring them and having a ball.
I don't actually organize or instigate stuff myself that often. Instead, I very deliberately have as little filter bubble on my Facebook as possible. I'm friends with all my local family and old classmates, follow local news and so on, so I can see what is really riling up the conservatives. Then I go and support that thing. I support the homeless camp. I support the library event about racism. I'm the 3rd person at a two-person anti-transphobia protest.
I'm still working on my technique in general. My theory is that coalition-building is important, since one obnoxious person at a city council meeting hasn't been nearly as effective as even 2 or 3. And finding other cool people has been really important to me being happy and healthy here. As a queer and gender-nonconforming woman, me being happy contributes to the goal of making them miserable, so I have to make that priority number 1.
Mom: stealing is bad. Don't go stealing
Dad: Do you steal some blackberries?
Neighbor (the one I'm stealing from): come inside and pick as many as you want. Do you need a ladder, here, have it
I love this village
Someone's driving through my village, blasting Verdi's Nabucco :)
