10/10/22 - I’ll be honest, I’ve not been feeling it for a while. But this weekend came the urge to go and make something. My old @gransforsbruk axe would be the victim this time and believe it or not I’ve never made a replacement mask for it, Or any axe for that matter? I’ve had it nearly a decade but never got that compulsion to make my own sheath for it (which I’ve learnt recently is called a Mask 😉) must of been happy enough with the one it came with and suppose I had no image in my head of something my own to make 🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyway, the motivation for the Hattori knife sheath in rough-out actually came from an axe mask I’d seen. It was the contrast of the fibrous rough-out against the darkened waxed burnished edges and crisp stitch line I think that does it for me. So I guess it’s only right coming full circle to make a mask for my own axe in this style. The addition of the grain-out leather is a personal touch but inspired again by the original Hattori sheath.
