Didn't Wilbur at one point literally SAY that the whole "words not weapons" thing was a way to get people's guards down and then stab them in the back? The OG L'manburgians were never non-violent, they just yelled that they were after choosing violence so that they could claim victimhood when their victims fought back.

L'Manburgians only claimed to be pacifist, but whenever they had the upper hand they took it, as exemplified by how they killed Alyssa without much hesitation.
