loving my little turtle garden ✨
Dreamt that my turtle escaped the weird backyard cage I was keeping her in and when I tried to catch her she high-tailed it onto a nearby road. The road was steep so she started sliding and picking up speed, zooming under oncoming traffic and surviving probably only thanks to my robust dream catcher collection. She found a slice of American cheese on the road and held it in the air all the way to the bottom of the hill where I saw her plop into a big pond. I was distraught at this point, thinking I’d never see her again, but when I got to the edge of the water and called for her she came right out. Feeling a rush of relief I scooped her up and began the long climb up the hill. For some reason I had to drop and roll several times but I managed to shield her with my body and she was fine. She was patient until I put her back in her safe outdoor cage and went inside to get back to whatever central drama was going on.
Thought it was interesting given I don’t think I’ve ever dreamt about my turtle Smeags getting up to shenanigans the way the dogs and horses often do. She comes to me when I call her inside the tank but I doubt she would if she actually got loose in a pond. She really loves swimming. Not sure about cheese.
I needed some kind of weather-proof matting to replace the coconut mat my turtle tore up. Went to Lowes and the closest thing I could find was a checkered doormat for $20.
Decided that was too much just to cut it up.
Went to the thrift stores.
First one had nothing. Second one had a tiny roll of astroturf with no price tag. They gave it to me for $2. I tossed in a set of matching whisky tumblers and a door mat for me. Still only $8.
And that second thrift shop is a local charity that seems genuinely good for the community too. The cashier was a funny older lady who was amazed to discover that aquatic turtles can live 35 years. Mine is only 14.
I'll post a pic of the turf when I get it installed tomorrow. Hopefully it fits.
