gift giving annoys the hell out of me because for some reason, it's so common for people to be snobby about homemade gifts? like some people will look at a painting or crocheting project someone put HOURS into and turn up their nose because it Didn't Cost 100 Dollars?? whenever I try to work on a homemade gift people are literally trying to talk me out of it like I'm committing a federal crime!

ok this is literally the worst, because there’s like such a sense of...competition or inadequacy around it, like, if you buy your friend a new phone cord and they buy you a ps4, it’s really uneven, but you’re not allowed to tell each other what you’re getting, so it’s a guessing game??? and so homemade items are the perfect solution except apparently those are Inferior somehow like r u kidding? that’s the best!

but the worst is when you Have to make a craft or something because you literally Can’t afford to buy anything, and you put all this work into it for someone on your christmas list you don’t even technically like (like your tr*mp-voting uncle or something) but it would cause drama to leave off the list, and then it’s Work for someone you hate. work or money either one

homemade gifts especially should be something cherished that comes from the heart, not done out of a sense of obligation :( like the whole culture of gift-giving is horrible
