"Stop and Smell the Buses"
My work captures the charming mundanity of a bus stop in the morning. I use the great works of master photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson as inspiration to capture a collection of black and white images that highlight the isolation and variety of a morning bus commute.
To compose and shoot my images dynamically I used some of the same techniques that Bresson used to capture his famously candid and well composed works, such as frame in frame, leading lines and rule of thirds. Bresson’s photos seem as though they are freezing a moment in time, immersing the viewer with clever use of shapes and forms and subject placement. If you look at photo 3, I use leading lines to focus the viewer's attention on the subjects in frame. There were clusters of subjects together but they all were traveling alone.
Through studying the methods of Henri Cartier-Bresson I was able to stop time and capture a familiar memory.
