Okay, that was a simple story: they were neighbors! Or almost it, since they lived close at the same street! Lake and Tulip moved there when they were 12 and Jesse, at first, thought it was amazing!! I mean, he's Jesse, of course he would want to to be friends with the new kids. But that... Wasn't easy. Tulip was kind but hardly was out her own room. Lake, on the other hand, prefered to be out all day, exploring the city and going to who-knows-where. Jesse even tried talking to them, but it didn't go very right and Jesse forgot about it because honestly.... He was terrified of Lake.
Some weeks later Lake overheard a convesation Jesse and Nate were having while walking next to them at the street. It was about how Nate had this silly crush on a classmate, just to confess and discover that she actually liked Jesse. Lake thought it was hilarious and wanted to interact with them for the first time. In the next day, they made a joke about it while the brothers were going to school, before waking away. Lake though it was funny; Jesse and Nate were very afraid.
After that... Things just happened! Lake sudenly started talking to them more and more and Jesse was very happy about it. Lake was a lot less scary when you actually meet them and they all became best friends! It was something new to Lake, and Tulip and their mom were very.... Intrigued about Lake finally wanting to be around some people.
