#SnakeSunday…HELLO, GORGEOUS!! 𓆗 Portraits of the (African) Puff Adder (Bitis arietans arietans) that spent an afternoon on our stoep a couple days ago. They use their beautiful markings for camouflage, & are a viper species that is dangerously venomous, so care must be taken in areas where they may occur, especially in the warm summer months. (These photos were taken at a safe distance, using zoom.) Snakes play a vital ecological role — & one that helps humans, in eating animals like rodents that are considered pests — so it’s best to leave it be (it’ll probably move off soon), or if necessary, call a professional wild snake handler for non-lethal removal/relocation.
