"#obi-wan to qui-gon: 'your padawan calls me master too'" asdlfkjasdlkf that is the MOST SSK thing he could say. That's l'essence de Sith!Senator Kenobi. I'm shocked and extremely invested. Imagine if that actually came up in conversation. Imagine Senator Kenobi in the Jedi temple for an actual meeting with someone not Anakin to discuss the war effort (he's bored but Sidious says it's important, ugh) and WHO DOES HE RUN INTO BUT QUI GON, they're sniping back and forth and then. He snaps a little
(cont) and says "your padawan calls me master too" or something similar but with more class, and Qui Gon goes DEAD silent. Obi Wan has a moment of vindictive satisfaction and - okay. Qui-Gon: Why are you telling me this? Obi Wan: Because no one will ever believe you (and I have used a great deal of mind tricks and ruined several careers to make sure of it) ((Aayla would totally believe it and Ahsoka MIGHT but all the other jedi are like 'that's too much even for Skywalker, honestly Qui-Gon.'))
oh YES.
Obi-Wan is the last person who should be inside the Jedi Temple, but Palpatine sent him specifically, probably to test him (or get rid of him, that’s still unclear) so you have this uncomfortable senator in the hall of the Temple who looks ready to bolt the second he’s done here, and of course the Councillor he came to see is a bit late today, and it’s starting to get so irritating to feel all this overwhelming light and compassion and sense of community around him that it makes Obi-Wan wants to vomit on their priceless marble floor.
Finally, someone calls his name and he turns around, relieved that this torture will soon come to an end, only to find Qui-Gon Jinn, who’s apparently feeling like having a chat as he waits. Obi-Wan is carefully considering the pros and cons of force-choking him as Jinn becomes more and more annoying (yes, sure, revealing he’s an evil Force-user in the middle of the Jedi Temple is, admittedly, not a great idea, but it will put an end to this pointless conversation, so Obi-Wan doesn’t rule it out right away.)
And then Jinn mentions Anakin, and the conversation becomes even more irritating, particularly when he notes how it would be better if Anakin could concentrate on his Jedi duties without any external distractions, and at this point, Obi-Wan should be given a medal for not planning his assassination right this moment.
The wookie-sized nuisance keeps talking with a serious tone, blissfully ignorant of the bundle of irritation and displeasure Obi-Wan is turning into, until he says, “As Anakin’s master—” and Obi-Wan can’t swallow his words fast enough. “You’re not the only one he calls Master.” Qui-Gon finally falls silent. “...Excuse me?” “Hm?” “You just said...” “Yes? what did I say?” “What did you mean by that, Senator Kenobi?” “Yes, what could I mean by that, I wonder.”
Obi-Wan knows his smile is too large and he’s showing too many teeth. He can’t find it in himself to care. The silence between them grows more uncomfortable the longer Jinn stares at him, and it only makes Obi-Wan’s smile sharper.
“Senator Kenobi?” A soft voice calls, a few meters away.
“If you’ll excuse me, Master Jinn,” Obi-Wan says, overly sweet and polite, his eyes never leaving his face. “It was lovely to be able to catch up with you, but duty calls. I’m sure you understand.”
The Jedi Temple isn’t such a terrible place, after all.
