For the sniper!Simon AU is it following the PHM plot directly with the explosion and being sent to space? Because if so I imagine that Simon has also been given tranquilizer darts as part of his kit. (Sometimes people are too needed to kill, even when being a threat.) Would he be given the order to sedate Grace on his escape attempt?

okay okay imagine him faking to go for grace’s neck and instead planting the needle in his own arm/hand. ryland sees what he’s doing and they don’t even have to exchange a look to understand each other. ryland fakes passing out and then they wait a bit, and right before the other security guards are about to lift his body, simon says "run" and ryland gets up and run while simon fights the security guards as much as he can before passing out because of the drug…

I have been thinking about your sniper Simon AU ever since we had our back and forth about it.

Simon when he’s been relieved of duty for the day and someone takes over, he goes to see if Grace is still there (which he is) working and Simon uses the radio to chat to him.

“Dr Grace. Shouldn’t you be at home already?”

And Grace obviously jumps because that’s not Carl but he relaxes when he sees it’s Simon and he asks through the radio “what time is it?” Because you know Grace is the type to get so sucked into his research he doesn’t realise the time.

i haven’t been able to stop thinking about it as well ngl!!! there’s so much potential!!

i love the thought of them communicating through the radio all day long, like imagine ryland just throwing science puns/jokes all day long through the radio because he doesn’t want simon to get bored. simon insists that he’s used to "doing nothing" for extended periods of time, that’s his job after all and he’s been doing it for a while now, but he just doesn’t want to admit he likes the company, even though it’s not physical. and he especially hates to admit that ryland’s jokes and puns are actually funny.

also this inspired me so i started writing something about ryland actually getting attacked and i got a tiny bit carried away… i’ll try to finish this today!

Did you kiss the brick before throwing it at us? 😭 Like, Simon being so pissed and all to discover they sent Grace without him knowing-

Can I offer an alternative version? For a happy ending for the two ? (I'm a sucker for happy endings, even if it means two idiots in love sent light years away into space in a suicide mission. Anyway, the explosion triggered some PTSD emotional response to Simon after it happened, and he worked on it by staying close to Grace or something

Cue to the moment Ryland is told "you have three hours" and he seeks out Simon and have a mental breakdown because he doesn't want to go, he's scared and "I don't want to lose you, Simon, not when I still haven't be able to tell you that I-" (maybe cut by the two kissing or something?)

Quick flash forward, Ryland still tried to run away, failed, but oh, look at that! The snipper ex-special force we've enrolled to protect him does not quite agree to their method 👀

Smth smth, either Yao or Ilyukhina were badly hurt (not killed, no need to kill more people) and like, Simon goes to Stratt and says "send me up there then"

And because of all the time he spent with Grace, listening to him rambling about his research and all for years (maybe acting as his close security officer when travelling across the globe as Stratt took him everywhere to meeting) he does have the knowledge as well, and the gene too (yes but of a stretch, I know-)

Anyway, both end up in space and can have some sort of happy ending together too, haha (told you, I'm a sucker for happy ending, though I don't mind some angst but like... Not angsty ending lol)

WAITTTT THIS IS SO GOOD

i imagine simon BEGGING stratt to send him with ryland. he can do this! and he has nothing and no one on earth either. stratt refuses. unfortunately (or fortunately), the med kit was still laying around, and simon had discreetly grabbed a syringe from it when he entered the office. he puts the needle to his neck.

"i’m gonna do great, i swear. just— just send me."

stratt doesn’t have time to stop him, he stabs himself in the neck with the syringe, injecting what’s inside. he’s not even sure this is the coma drug. he hopes it is.

when he wakes up, there is a robotic voice saying ‘eye movement detected.’

holy fuck you're so evil. imagining that Simon didn't even take that day off but he was told that he wouldn't need to come in that day so that he wasn't even in the know about what was going on with Grace. Omg. That's so cruel. Do you think he's mentioned in the Beatles video logs.

MY THOUGHT EXACTLY!! simon being written off the schedule with no explanation… only to find out carl was the one who removed him from the schedule and he feels horribly betrayed. simon lost two friends that day. ):

OF COURSE HE’S MENTIONED, and ryland talks about how he misses seeing simon and carl fight and simon has to pause the video for a good ten minutes before he can continue. ughhh this makes me sick actually

I live LIVE! for special agent simon. 🫴 envisioning Simon moving spots because Grace keeps spotting him and Grace is treating it like an i-spy game and being way too proud of himself when he does find Simon.

no cause it’s been stuck in my mind since i posted that… this AU has so much potential!!!

also the thought of simon being forced to change spot all the fucking time because ryland keeps spotting him is hilarious 😭😭 everyone is like ‘dude STOP’ but he absolutely refuses to have his silliness taken from him. let him wave at the attractive sniper on the roof!!!

anyways simon would be mildly annoyed at first but then he starts to find it amusing as well.

one day simon takes a day off and sneaks up behind ryland to scare him and then says "heh i found you first this time"

Can you imagine if Carl finds out what Grace has been doing? Talking to Simon? He absolutely teases Grace about it over the radio whilst he’s in the lab.

NO CUZ WAITTTT wouldn’t it be so peak if simon and carl had some sort of rivalry going on like they’re "fighting" over who ryland loves the most 😭 (they’re actually really good friends and ryland thinks they hate each other because of their dynamic, they think it’s hilarious)

anyways it ends when ryland gets drugged and sent to space (simon wasn’t working that day. he never spoke to carl again.)
