Opinion on current VA's?
Let's make it short and sweet because....well...I need more scenes to judge. The unfortunate thing for dubs is that it isn't always consistent and they can sound awkward in parts and perfect in others. That said, sometimes they sound better in continued dialogue rather than cutting in the middle of a scene or catching them in monologue (the tone is differed and usually lower since it's all in their heads).Anyway-FIRST IMPRESSION on the main cast:
Erwin: No elaborate comment. We heard one word out of him, but the VA's past roles were ones I liked a lot.
Levi: Not gonna lie, it sounded good in areas and too deep in others. I would prefer if he sounded younger than Erwin but we got more one liners and those also sound different than in dialogue. He has potential to grow into his part and I look forward to his lines in the second part because that's when he dialogues more. On the bright side...he sounds a mix of Cody and Chad from 104th Voices??
Hanji: Too 'little girl' for me. The voice itself is good and the energy is there, but I would've preferred a deeper/more neutral voice like the Japanese VA. I actually think her and Petra should've switched roles because-
Petra: WINRY! I love Caitlin Glass and I'm glad she got a role, albeit a small one for this half of the season. She does make a good Petra, though and her performance is something I accept!
Ymir: We didn't hear her BUT there is a demo reel of her previous roles. She hasn't done a lot from what I was looking at, but if she uses the same pitch and tone as her other roles, it'll actually be PERFECT!!
Christa: Dunno.
Connie: Really good! I think this was one of the better casting! And this one had only one role prior so I say a good lesser known pick!
Sasha: She only screamed a 'woo-hoo' so like...I don't know. It was a good one? XD.
Bertholdt: Didn't say anything yet.
Reiner: Okay. Expected deeper, but not bad.
Annie: She's hot! OKAY! The voice actress herself is too! I love this voice. I really do. I'm not so disappointed that Clinkenbeard didn't get the role.
Marco: Perfect! I love it, sounds like him, fits his face and demeanor. Great.
Jean: IT SURPRISED ME! Uhm...it sounded weird at first, but in dialogue it was less strange and I liked it for the most part. It's not a bad voice but it's something I need to get used to...
Armin: Whoa ok, I dunno how to feel because I'm so used to girlish voices on characters like him, and I would've expected this voice on like...Marco or something. At least he's one of the youngest sounding! Could take a while to get used to him. Still wish Maxey got the role.
Mikasa: Also not bad in dialogue. A bit weird on its own, now thinking about it, but I love the VA and she does great enough work that could fit in to Mikasa's more intense emotions. Of course, questionable on the stoic nature, but we'll see. I love the voice itself, but the tone needs to be felt for and exercised to make it REALLY good.
