I knew this would happen, though.
I would always roll my eyes at posts like ‘well, erwin’s done now because he confirmed his dad’s theory so he can die now’ being posted like way back when, before the chapel conflict even and during it.
No, because even in 62 he states he has a dream and it isn’t in past tense. I’m also not sure why people theorised his dream had nothing to do with his father because he clearly has him in his mind whenever the topic comes up. He’s clearly not ‘done,’ not just yet.
He confirmed his father’s theory was possible and that was it, he has no idea why or how it still happens. Driven by the fact so many bizarre things happen in this world, Erwin’s father’s theory became very much plausible in the past arc, but all that was really figured out was that society was in fact being manipulated. Why on earth would you believe a character like Erwin would simply stop there? That’s like doing an experiment to watch a chemical reaction and then not actually figuring out and noting down the process that just occurred. Why would a man fight his entire life only to have something vaguely confirmed and then put it to bed?
Erwin’s never striked me as that type, to be honest. He’s determined, persistent, and it’s clear by his strategies as a commander that understanding the world around him (be that his enemies or the mysteries they encounter) is very much important to him.
Of course he wanted to go down this path and understand how this all happens, and is even willing to give up his life for it. I hope he gets to see it.
