LOST! I've been reading Audacity again (for the 100th time.) Truly I think it's my favorite canon fic. So I was reading the part before they take the refugees out and Erwin talked to each of them, thanking them and praising each of them with tears streaming down his face and Levi by his side. I thought how precious and fulfilling that must havebeen. Then I thought of the people cheering the Scouts on before Shinganshina, and how wonderfully he responded. A dream come true. His last moment experiencing the appreciation of the people...the humanity...he swore to defend. Made me feel a little bit better because he deserved it. Thought I'd share. Hope you're well!
Jeez Mags, just kill me why don't you? 😭😂 One of the things I still love about Audacity, is that it's still one of the few fics in the fandom that deals with the visceral horror and carnage of the genocidal expedition to retake Wall Maria. It breaks my heart.
The scene from chapter 72, when the scouts depart for Shiganshina gives me all the feels in quite a different way. The look on Erwin's face when he realises the people have turned out to see them off for the first time ever, and his roar of determination and courage are just incredible. But of course his joy is all the more poignant because we know he will never return. Dammit, now I've made myself cry again 😭
