Stratification and Rudeness in Home Arcade
I know one or two people who have wondered why I have shown skepticism that vintage or full sized arcade cab collectors can or are capable of being friends with lower end home arcade cab collectors and this is why..
I was watching a video of a pinball enthusiast talking about the upcoming Alice Goes to Wonderland pinball for example.. There's a lot of stratification in the home arcade market..
There's definitely home arcade people who look down their noses at home arcade people like me because our cabs are just "toys" to them as opposed to their hella expensive serious machines..
That's their opinion and they are entitled to it but I also think it's rude and mean.. Even to those who enjoy cabs that are even cheaper than mine..
There's tiers to even the cheaper end of the home arcade market.. like there are XL, Deluxe, countertop, etc. tiers and they are not all the same..
but I choose not to stoop to the elitist full size level and put down those who get the cheapest and smallest cabs available..
Like even if they seem awful to me and they'd never improve upon them with modding if that's possible as long as they're happy with their purchases that's all that matters..
Technically they are correct, a lot of lower end home arcade products do come off very toyetic especially if you just assemble and keep them stock but they don't need to be rude and pompous about it and I think I've done a good job at making mine look good in my arcade myself if I do say so myself!
But it seems there's always people in every hobby who become snobs for their choices and have to feel superior by putting down everyone else..
I know the guy who was really down on Wonderland Amusements probably is so because he builds and sells virtual pinball machines himself so he's heavily biased and would badmouth any competitors in the hopes that people would fork over the big bucks to have him make them a machine instead..
You can't always trust people and their opinions online especially if they have something to gain because they are trying to sell you something.
Personally, I think that guys machines are overly engineered, oversized and very tacky along with being overpriced.. so TBH.. I don't care what he thinks..
The fact of the matter is a to a lot of people it's all the same. All arcade machines are just expensive toys.. it doesn't matter how complex or simple they are or how cheap or expensively manufactured they are.
