Ok so Viggo being chief of the “Dragon Hunters” just doesn’t sit right because that’s a job description not a tribe name.

Like wdym we’ve got the Hooligan tribe of Berk, the Berserker tribe of Berserker Island, the Defenders (of the Wing) tribe of Caldera Cay, etc. and then…

The Dragon Hunters tribe of Dragon Hunter Island. That’s like being the Front Desk Receptionist tribe of Front Desk Receptionist Island. That is a job description not a tribe or island name!

So anyways because I think that’s stupid, in my fics Viggo’s tribe is the Ironblood tribe of Runeshield Island. And I have now decided to give them a new crest too! Because… a bloody fist?

Reallyyyy leaning into connection the Dragon Hunters with Drago Bludvist (or should I say “Dargo Bloody-Fist or something”). My Ironbloods deserve their own crest for their tribe thank you very much.

Which led me to make them one!

The drawing was a very quick sketch don’t mind that haha

It’s the silhouette of a Snow Wraith because Viggo’s tribe created the Dragon Eye centuries ago and the Dragon Eye needs the tooth of a Snow Wraith to work :)

a neat little detail i noticed on my trip: the snow wraith’s pupils dilate, similar to cloudjumper!

still have no idea how this effect is achieved… if anyone has any insight i would be super interested to hear it!

as much as im annoyed i forgot the thumbs on this, im rlly happy with how it came out :3 no notes on this one, i think i wore the trex inspiration on my sleeve

despite their sturdy build, snow wraiths are up the smaller end of dragons and typically live in packs of 5-6 other wraiths.

they have heat pits on the underside of their beaks which funnel up through the nasal horn—depsite their small nostrils (that can close up during stronger blizzards) they have no trouble tracking any creature down.

they also possess strong tetrachromatic vision; even without their nose they can see much more clearly in storms than most other species.

their hide is thick and their bodies are fat, diminishing their ability to fly under usual circumstances. however, during a blizzard they will ride the wind to exert as little effort as possible to stay aloft, following the path until it reaches the end of their territory or the storm dies down.

warm-blooded reptiles with insulating fur-like scales

not many large animals can survive in their frigid territory so they usually hunt deer, foxes, and large fish.

their beak is shaped like a snow plough to allow to to cleanly cut through snow. it will use this to carve out tunnels in glaciers and snowy mountains in order to nest. the tusks on either side of their beaks are mating displays; females tend to have larger tusks as they dont get broken off during fights, but outside of that they have very little sexual dimorphism.
