excellent. I forgot yesterday. oh well STORYTIME
day 15/344: me and my family occasionally volunteer for a fun little thing that happens in the big trail area in our town. there's a cabin about one kilometer down the main trail, and on Saturdays people go there, light a fire, and set up snacks and such for people going by. this weekend it was my family doing it. not a lot of people showed up, but eventually one of our friends came by on his skidoo.
(i'm keeping his name private because this is the internet. Let's call him Jason instead of his real name.)
So, my sister, me, and Jason were hanging out, teasing each other, putting snow down somebody's back, etc. etc. and then I mention something about snowmobiles and he offers to let me ride his.
now, me being me, my knee jerk reaction was no, because this was HIS skidoo and if I crashed it or got it stuck then that would just be really rude. after a bit him and my sister convinced me to give it a go.
he explains how it works (it's my first time on a skidoo), how to steer, how to get it going, don't put it in the powder snow because it's not built for that, etc etc. so I have a go at it, making liberal use of the brake and in general not going very fast. after that, Jason and my sister laugh at me for going granny-pace and I end up going a lot faster.
then, my sister wants a turn or Jason offered it and she accepted or something, I've forgotten, but then Bianca (using another placeholder name. somehow they're both pjo characters lol) is on the snowmobile and this is where I need to explain something.
if you give me and my sister control over a vehicle, especially one that's not ours, we have VERY different ways of trying it out. they can be summed up as follows. for me, it's an "I'll try, but I won't try anything stupid till I know what I'm doing." for Bianca, it's more of a "let's see what this baby can do!" attitude.
also, Bianca's attention span is somewhat limited. when Jason was explaining skidoos to me, she did not pay attention, which is fair because he wasn't talking to her. however. while he was explaining skidoos to her, Jason forgot to mention that you should not take the snowmobile into the powder snow, because it's an older model from the states and it doesn't really know what it's doing all the way up here.
so she gets on the skidoo and takes of like a shot. and within about a minute, she's in the powder and isn't moving. me and Jason run over, and yup, she's got it stuck. and not just regular stuck either.
this snowmobile is
really
REALLY
REAAAALLY
stuck.
we try to get it out, of course, but to no avail. we're there for half an hour, Jason tries to call some friends to get us a tow, Bianca goes to a path that leads onto the lake to try and stop some people, etc...
eventually we flagged down four people going in a group and they showed us how to get it out and made a path for the skidoo to go on. all's well that ends well, some of the friends Jason was trying to call show up comically late too which is hilarious.
why is this whole debacle is a good thing? it's a very funny story. anyways there you have it. silly skidoo story yay
renner: snowmobiling is very difficult, it’s tricky as heck
dax shepard: it’s the easiest thing to learn how to ride, you can teach someone in five seconds
renner: and it’s the easiest thing to bury and your day is ruined! two hours digging out FORGET IT I’M NOT DOING IT!! it’s snowing right now in taho and i locked up all my snowmobiles so no-one drives them [laughs]
