How do you think Lacey would react to finding out how dangerous Scott’s (and uncle Javi’s) job is?

Like when she’s REAL little (like 3ish) they would just be like oh daddy watches the weather.

And then when she’s like 5-7 she learns about tornadoes in school and Scott info dumps which leads either reader or Scott to be like “well… daddy kinda chases them?”

when she's real little and they say that Scott watches the weather she's like "oh wow that's cool!" She doesn't think about what that means bc i guess I imagine she thinks they're watching it in the same way she might be watching it: from the safety of her home or the car. Also despite living in Oklahoma she has yet to see a really bad one (the types that Javi and Scott go crazy over) so it's not too scary for her just yet.

When she's older though and there's also more awareness on her end of just how destructive they are (like learning about them at school) she asks again. I can see it being like... a mini project? Their teacher asks them to ask their parents whether they've ever been affected by a tornado for example, and Lacey is geeked bc her daddy literally watched tornadoes do he will have sooo many cool experiences for sure.

Scott is excited to talk about his work with her but as she asks more questions Scott has to explain that they don't just chase tornadoes, they chase big tornadoes and often have to get in front of them to set up the readers. Lacey, curious as she is is like "isn't that dangerous? our teacher always tells us to get away from tornadoes" and because Scott is sooo into his explanation he forgets that 1. she's a little kid still 2. she doesn't fully understand that he's like... extra qualified to do this shit and he just goes "well yeah my truck has flipped over lots of times" and now she's nervous.

I can definitely see her asking why he does something that's so obviously dangerous if he knows that he could get hurt and if he has been hurt before, can deffo see her gently suggesting in her lovely Lacey way that he should have a different job — maybe he should tell people the weather like the lovely ladies on TV do instead of chasing tornadoes.

I imagine Scott builds little rituals with her to keep her mind at ease — he wears the bracelets she makes for him whenever he goes chasing and tells her they're his safety charms, he calls every single night or at least gives her some signs of life (especially if the tornado he was chasing is big enough to make the news). I think he'd also try explaining why his job is so important and telling her all the safety precautions they take!! She's still a nervous little kid about it though of course and that first storm season after she finds out about the dangers of his job she almost wants to hang off of him to stop him from going (reader and lacey always see scott off). asks reader over and over for updates (life360 babyyyy) and wants to watch the little scott icon move on the map. as long as there's no major incidents the anxiety goes away and she realises they're not so big and scary and scott can handle himself!!

💔 WE ALMOST BROKE UP LAST NIGHT— scott miller x reader (request, 18+)

The only thing worse than a bad call in the field was Scott reminding you that you'd made a bad call. Always said with an air of condescension — like you should've known better, and not like you guys were dealing with slightly unpredictable weather phenomena. Worse still were the pitying looks thrown your way when he delivered barbed comments about your reliability. It's been a bad week — investors bearing down on Javi and Scott, equipment going on the fritz when you needed it most — and of course you do the unthinkable by making one bad call. One bad call that leads to two hours of raised voices in Scott's parked truck as the rain beats down outside while everyone else gets to enjoy a drink for their troubles.

🍼 LEARNING CURVE — dad!scott x reader (mr argumentative pt3, 18+)

Lesson Number Two: Scott is a very visual man. The picture's not meant to be sexual, just a cute little update one morning when you notice the beginnings of a bump while you're getting dressed. A quick photo you snap, turning slightly to the side so it's more prominent for him. He'd reacted with a thumbs up and a very short 'guess you're gonna start needing those foot rubs soon.' You forget about it until he has you pressed into the couch, his teeth nipping roughly at the tender column of your throat while he presses his hand into your belly, feeling at the slight bump.

What is your “canon” timeline of the dad!scott au? Obviously mr argumentative 1&2 are first and you’ve got mail is the “most recent” but in between?

hiiii this is a fab question!! ur right about the start and end, but this is my "canon" timeline for dad!scott au (with Lacey ages where I remember how old she's supposed to be!! Also Lacey is a September baby, if that matters to the people)

mr argumentative pt1 - conception

mr argumentative pt2 - very early pregnancy

indecent proposal - lacey's just over a year old, a little under 18 months

just friends? - lacey's 18 months ish

big green monster - i think in my head she was like... freshly 3?

perfect little valentine - 3.5 basically <3

one more night - she's closer to 4 than she is to 3 here.

the prettiest king - lacey is 4 here!!

special prize - lacey is 5 (lowkey wanna rewrite this so it happens in the summer right before she turns 5 though. to give scott and reader more babymaking time. )

you've got mail - lacey is still 5, set over the december/january break, 10 weeks into pregnancy 2 <3

sidenote: writing a series/au not in order from the get go is lowkey stressful bc i'm so used to writing things IN ORDER

Idk how old your making Lacey when Scott and reader finally get together. But my brain produced this while I was at work:

Lacey’s friend watching Scott and reader bicker: wow your parents have a lot of tension. Are they ok?

Lacey: yeah it’s just because they have crushes on each other and refuse to admit it

Lacey’s friend: ??? They have two whole children together???

OHHHH my god I've been toying around with when they were gonna get together and i had actually envisioned lacey and reader sitting together when lacey's in her early teens and lacey's having crush issues and reader's trying to relate so she's like "yeah dating pool for your mom's not much better either" and lacey kinda just sighs and makes a face and reader is offended bc she can relate!! and lacey is like "no offense mom, but you literally have dad" and then reader obviously performs her little "ur father and I are just co-parents you know this" and lacey is like "that's why dad is always finding any excuse to stay the night riiiight... " and reader is humiliated bc she did not realise that lacey was this perceptive like Ohhh she's WATCHING.

Lacey who rolls her eyes when scott and reader start arguing or when either of them talking to other people and they're pretending not to be jealous... trying to explain to her friends that no her parents aren't together but they do family shit together all the time and sometimes she sees her dad grinding his teeth when people flirt with her mom and her mom is definitely a little territorial but that's just the state of things actually sooooo

Out of curiosity: how do you think Scott, reader and Lacey would deal with a pregnancy scare?

Or conversely: how would they deal with a miscarriage? (Obvs don’t have to answer if you don’t want to)

Just some sort of situation where they think she’s pregnant and she isn’t

oh god pregnancy scare is a little disappointment. if this is pre pregnancy #2 then lacey definitely doesn't need to know. after that and she's definitely disappointed but scott and reader just explain that sometimes these things happen! i think if it's just a scare it's small disappointment but if reader was pregnant and then miscarried. worse (obviously). besides losing a child, the worst part is having to tell lacey (who was very excited) and explain that there's no longer a baby. scott kinda pulling her to the side and gently explaining that everyone might be a little sad for a while and that she maybe needs to be a little nicer with reader (which bless her, she takes to heart. she's saving reader snacks and letting reader hold her favourite soft toy bc those are the things that bring her comfort.)

definitely one of the very first really hard things they'd be dealing with together and i think for reader there's the urge to handle it herself instead of finding comfort in scott (old habits die hard) so there's the double whammy of mourning this loss and letting scott be emotional support when she needs him and giving him that same emotional support when he clearly needs it (even though he acts like he's fine)
