Cause it's pretty useful to have everything in one place, that I can chuck a link to in the pinned post, vs digging through bios and canon posts to find the same info. Although this is a brief overview, so there will be more depth elsewhere for a lot of muses.

A small disclaimer: mun is a gay man. I am very up for m/f ships, and talking about the nsfw side of their relationship, but I'm not routinely up for RPing m/f nsfw, instead going with fade to blacks and time skips.

Love shipping, always up for trying a pair out, even if ultimately it doesn't work, never be afraid to ask.

For some muses, this is also hypothetical, it's where they could end up in a relationship where conversations and sexual exploration happen, but at their base canon they might not have a damn clue what kink terms mean, or that top and bottom have different connotations in different uses. Not like he sets out to be a brat, but my god he's mouthy and stubborn and loves to refuse commands, he's a fucking brat. Can Snuff control mushrooms since they are born of decay?

Nope. Can't control them, can help them, kick-start them into more, same as he can with other growth, but not control them.

They're more like colleagues, they gel well, they've got some clear communication going on and if he asks in the right way they'll do something, but he can't control them. Fungus is its own thing, with its own opinions and relationship with the fae.

Some plants he can control more directly, even some insects, but not fungus. They're too similar. Too close.

Not a physical thing, or something he's about to admit to or act on, but Snuff really wants to show up the king of the Spring Court. He wants to ruin that dipshits reputation and life. Not right now, not yet... He's too busy acting above it and past it. But oh boy. That's his big want atm for sure.

Kennedia: One thing your character admires in someone

He admires how easily some people speak their mind, not mired by years of manners and behavior training. So that's something I very much imagine he might see in Alaric, that ability to be impulsive and outspoken, even if it doesn't always end well?

Laurel: If your character could be remembered for one thing, what would it be?

His work. His skills, his abilities. That side of things. Nothing about him as an individual, that doesn't matter as much.

Isaac and Snuff history

Isaac was contracted out by the former queen of the Spring court. She’d wanted to test out the Waystones as a service, and trusted Snuff as someone who both wouldn’t need to rely on one, but could also put them through their paces as a stress test, even if Snuff made it clear he didn't want to.

Officially, he was hired as a guard and an assistant. There to keep Snuff safe when the magical advisor needed to venture into the wilds, and there to help out with any other task put upon him. Incredibly unnecessary, there isn’t much that Isaac could tackle that Snuff couldn’t handle with ease on his own, and Snuff was never alone, always followed by the cats, who packed a hell of a punch themselves. However. Snuff realized pretty quickly that Isaac made it all a lot easier. Something about him put the wilds themselves at ease. The cats relaxed, the problem animals and mischief making fae who lived out in the forests not only left well enough alone, they seemed… friendly. When he went out without Isaac, the difference was staggering.  

Snuff had figured out that Isaac wasn’t a full court fae on the first day. It wasn’t unusual in the spring court so he didn’t think anything of it. Not until Isaac needing healing, and discovering that Isaac’s blood made him violently ill to consume. A protection against those who’d try to take it. Not like anything Snuff had tasted before from a court fae, or any wild fae at that.

So Snuff taught Isaac how to make basic healing remedies, and watched as Isaac not only caught on quick, but surpassed his own ability to remember and effectively create potions and more. Snuff started giving Isaac books to read on it, or little tasks to make or figure out a herbal concoction instead of helping Snuff with his own work. He didn’t need the help, and was more interested in having someone around who could independently assist with Snuff’s more boring day to day tasks.

Isaac went from following instructions perfectly every time, but only ever following instructions, never acting unless told, to finding his own interest and focus, finding his own rhythm in Snuff’s lab. Encouraged at every step and allowed to figure out what it was he wanted to do. Something Snuff still doesn’t realize was more important than any time he told Isaac not to always say yes to a command, not to always just do as he’s told if he’s busy or upset.

When they were out gathering supplies in the wilds, Snuff started playing a game where he’d ask Isaac to ID things, treating it like a memory exercise to see how much he was learning. When stumped once, however, Isaac took the plant and ate it before Snuff could stop him. Replying with not only its name, but that it was for topical use only, but had great use for pain relief and infection prevention, but if ingested could lead to vomiting. When nothing happened the first few times Isaac ate something that was considered a Bad Time by every written account, Snuff stopped worrying. It became the new game. Asking Isaac to identify things without seeing them, including picking apart ingredients in already made remedies.

The longer Isaac was there, the more and more he'd deny an order or a request. Almost always with a reason given, he's busy, he's not as capable of the task as Snuff is, something is wrong. The last one being a catch all that Snuff never questioned. It could mean Isaac was upset, scared, ill, or even simply didn't feel like it. It didn't matter. Something was wrong. That was enough.

As well as that, Isaac would look younger more often, and Snuff was able to figure out that Isaac seemingly used his glamour as a barometer of how he felt. He's not even sure if Isaac was doing it intentionally, but he looked older when he was more walls up or worried, as if he thought projecting maturity made him more appear more stable or competent.

Snuff brought up making the contract more permanent with the queen, shortly before she passed away. When she did, the Waystones informed the new king he had say in it now, as it was simply tied to the current leader of the court. He didn’t care, didn’t want to hear about them or from them at all, so dismissed it. Thought Isaac would stick around after he fired Snuff to hire a new magical advisor – expecting Isaac to continue doing a lot of the day to day tasks Snuff had taught him, while the new advisor could take credit and make him look good. Should’ve read the contract. Snuff was the person Isaac was hired for, no more Snuff, no more Isaac. Didn’t even need to say anything to the King, after Snuff was gone, Isaac just vanished.

It took the king YEARS to find the information to contact the Waystones, intending to simply hire Isaac back, but then he heard they did assassinations. Still wanted Isaac, he thought it would be a wonderfully cruel thing to do. Either Snuff was killed by a friend or was forced to kill his friend. Course. Neither ended up happening.

Disliking the level of utter disrespect from the king, the Waystones weren’t exactly eager to help him. Letting him write up a contract so full of loopholes and outs, the only thing Isaac couldn’t tell Snuff was who hired him, and that was incredibly easy to figure out once Isaac recited the entire contract word for word to its target. Allowing Snuff to understand just how badly written it was, and wondering if the Waystones wanted his attention more than the kings. Isaac’s response that Snuff does have royal blood, wasn’t a comforting one. He didn’t want to be part of any sketchy organization's machinations. But, he was happy to have his assistant back. Even if it came with the occasional weak attempt on his life.

Annnd right at the end. There is a lingering guilt on Snuff’s part. They had sex once when still in the court, and despite Isaac insisting he wanted to and enjoyed it, Snuff still thinks Isaac is people pleasing and doesn’t mean it. Makes him feel understandably awful. Meanwhile, Isaac doesn’t get why Snuff, of all people, is dismissing his input and what he says, and also doesn’t understand why two things can’t be true. Yes wanting to please Snuff played a part, of course it did, but he wanted to, he didn’t feel obligated to. For Isaac it was the only times he’d enthusiastically consented to something, not just done his job, and it sucks that it means something so different to Snuff.

Isaac is the closest to a real friend Virgil has.

Virgil was never someone Isaac saw as an authority, so his people pleasing wasn't as strong, he'd still not directly say no or deny a request, but he'd ignore them or pretend to not hear.

There's a pugnacity that Virgil can bring out in people, a pushy, roughhousing, trouble making that doesn't happen otherwise. He was the first person Isaac ever healed besides himself.

Isaac is so quiet and still that Virgil says he can calm the world around him, including Virge. It's actual a sympathetic magic thing, from Isaac's maternal side, a type of presence that allows them to help and interact even with the more malevolent of fae beings with little threat.

They're chill. Snuff doesn't get it. Virgil is the only person permanently banned from the store, and Snuff is the reason Virgil knows what it feels like to decompose from the inside out. So the fact Isaac likes them both is something neither get.

awh man, I haven't done a world building kinda tangent thing in a bit...

So let's talk about the fae.

Or at least, how I, on this blog, are choosing to use and interpret the myriad of disparate folklores and mythologies most often lumped together as 'fairy'.

Fairy means something from the fae otherworld, or something originating in the otherworld. Creatures from there have been in the human realm and developed in the human realm for millennia, which is why some people are more purists on what counts as a fae and what doesn't. It's debatable, there's no clear cut answer.

Court/High/Old fae, really - REALLY - like that they're seen as the default 'fairy'. It's great that everyone else gets lumped in some othering bracket of 'wild fae' because, well, they're not court fae, so they're wild. That came from them. They taught that to humans. The court fae are the Aos Sí, the Tylwyth Teg, the elves.

Various courts have had different interactions and relationships with the people who find them, or that they seek out. Some good, some bad, and because different courts often have such wildly different cultures, laws, behaviors, it led to all the conflicting and changing ideas of what these beings are. For example, some people think fae only tell the truth. In reality, they just met winter court fae who love word games and prize clever language use over lying. It's cultural.

More than four courts, the seasonal name was a human invention that those lucky enough to get, adopted and boast about.

In this world, a lot of the human perspective and understanding of fairies has been shaped by court fae, so is WILDLY biased and wrong.

Wild fae, as said, is basically a useless term that means any kind of fairy besides a court fae. It can mean something like the cats at Snuff's shop, or it can mean Virgil. A redcap, a brownie, a barghest, sluagh, baobhan sith, fenodyree, puca, dullahan etc. etc. and those are just the kinds humans have put names to. Anything from what's basically a small animal up to 'that's literally just a dude'. It's such a broad category as to be, functionally, pointless.

And like, yeah, this is a very like just rambling for a bit post, and just how I do shit. I am never going to be an ass about other people doing things differently. We can handwave it as 'different kind of fae' or do some worldbuilding together to find a common ground. Either is good.

As for the realm itself. A whole heap of names, Faerie, the otherworld, fae realm, Elphame, any of them work. The worlds are physically connected, closer at some points, further at others, but their connections don't move. If a door to the fae world opens in one spot, it will always go to that spot.

Big range of environments and biomes, but they're more stable and less changing than earth. Not as much in the way of seasons, not necessarily mild fluctuations, but less common. An area of near permanent snow and ice might thaw into a super bloom meadow, or somewhere like Valentine's home - nearly constant warm still air - breaks into violent storms for a few weeks once a year.

What's their McDonalds order?

Felix would have to be dragged in by scruff to go to Maccas. The absolute most he'd be willing to try would be a black coffee.

Snuff, while never going out of his way for it, does associate it as what you do with hungover friends. Bacon, egg, and sausage mcmuffin with double hash browns. The hash browns are the best bit.

What's their most hated chore around the house?

Felix fucking hates all kinds of cleaning. Prefers to not make a mess ever instead of need to clean up. Stopped cooking because food gunk in the sink was particularly disgusting and Wellspring didn't have disposals.

Snuff is nearly the opposite, genuinely enjoys tidying up and scrubbing and finishing a task he can see the results of. The worst thing is changing bed linens. He's got a super king bed because of all the cats, and that things a bitch to change sheets on, and the cats make it even harder cause they love to get in and on everything. Plus, his apartment isn't that big, so changing the cover on a duvet sucks ass, and is why he largely opts for comforters or blankets alone.

Are they good at replying to messages?

Felix absolutely is not. Can be very quick if he's interested. But otherwise? No way. He'll get to things when he gets to things. If he gets bored, if he doesn't feel like it, there's a bunch of reasons why he will not reply to someone.

Snuff is mostly good. He can forget if it's someone he knows well enough that he's not worried about them taking offence to it. Like, he'd leave Kaz on read for a week and not think twice, but that's not how he is with most people.
