I went to a pho restuarant recently that has honestly been one of my favorites. Its run by amazing people and has amazing food at decent prices. It's a 'special day' type restaurant--reserved for birthdays and the like.
I hadn't been in for a while and since then they've hired new staff. Staff that doesnt know how to deal with a service dog. My family and I were seated in the furthest back corner of the restaurant. We were a good five tables away from any other customer. We were right under the speakers, and while it was good music, I like hearing myself think.
As a handler with a relatively large Service Dog, I try to make life as easy as possible for the staff and customers at a restaurant (or any other venue). This means I usually ask for a booth that's out of the way. By doing this I try to put my best foot forward, I know fake service dogs and restaurants haven't had the best of histories. I try to keep this in mind.
However, by purposefully removing me from the general public, making me sit in one of the worse tables because 'oh you have dog, this way please' is discrimination. My dog is a lifeline for me, hes not here to beg off food. He could walk through your kitchen without sampling anything (which is more than I can say for me at least...seriously a whole kitchen full of good food I'd wanna sample stuff). He can tuck under the table and be completely out of sight out of mind. When we got up and left the customers were surprised there was a dog there.
Maybe I should have stood up and asked for a different table. But I'm tired. I'm tired of having to fight for my rights. I'm tired of every time I try to shop or eat or whatever being questioned about my service dog. I'm tired of being pushed into the dark corner without a say and too tired to say anything.
But anyway, there was a dog cartoon on our table...so that's probably why we were sat there...to see the dog...yeah 😑
I don't understand why antis exist? like do you honestly have nothing else better to do? all that time and energy you have hating on a group could be put into caring for your faves
One time at work
I was ringing up this old couple, and the man just looked at me and went "you're not smiling!" in a genuinely concerned voice. And I am so tired and unhappy and fed up that I did not feel like playing the usual game and I just quietly said "no, I'm not." Apparently this was to much for him to handle bc he turned to his wife, astounded, and goes "she's not smiling!?" like she could do anything about it. Like, what the heck, sir?! Just let me live
