Still can't believe Patrick fuh-guk-king Stump was on SVTFOE how iconic is that
Day Ten- Exercise
Sorry for the long wait! I started college, and it’s been a bit hectic. Enjoy!
Starring Morgen Edelmann-O’Neil, Patrick and Kellan O’Neil; Deja Beaucage and Ruby Cross; Isabelle St. Croiux and Elizabeth Grant; Alessandra Moreno-Buatista, Nathanael Duarte, and Lena DiVito; and Daisy Mae and Milford (IV) Caldecott
“Today’s a good day” Morgen pulled herself up again. “Patty! What are you doing?”
“Ehhhh” Patrick groaned from his position on the floor. “Why did I have to come?”
“Patty, you’ve done four sit ups in the last ten minutes. You aren’t even trying.”
“You shouldn’t be judging me, you’re like, good at this. You’re doing one-armed pull ups.”
“Patty.” Morgen dropped to the ground. “If you trained like me, you would be able to do them too. You can’t blame me for not being a marshmallow.” She walked over and poked him with her foot.
“I’m not a marshmallow. Right, Kellan?”
Kellan didn’t look up. “I’m staying out of this.”
“Kellan, how are you more of a girl than me?” Morgen dropped to the ground and started doing sit ups.
“Doing yoga doesn’t make me a girl.”
“I was referring to the pink yoga mat. Very girly. Now, Patrick,” she switched her attention to her older brother. “This is how you do sit ups. None of that straining nonsense. Up, down, up, down. If you wiggle, you ruin it.”
Patrick rolled to his feet. “I’m going to go get a smoothie. Either of you want one?”
“The usual.”
“Strawberry with those little jelly balls, please.” Kellan switched positions. “And three extra spoons of sugar.”
Morgen shook her head.
~~~
“Come on, Deja! Just two more!” Ruby was holding her cousin’s feet down. Deja strained up until her elbows touched her knees.
“Why do I have to do ten? I’m in just as much pain as I was at five, does it really make a difference at this point?”
“Deja, Coach gave you the training program for a reason. You just have to get certified for field work and then you can go back to your geeky computer nerd ways. Come on, one more!”
Deja forced her way up again. “Done!”
“Not quite yet. You still have to run four laps and climb the rope.”
Deja buried her face in her hands.
~~~
“Elizabeth! This does not count as exercise!” Isabelle hissed upward. Elizabeth swung up to another tree branch before responding.
“Why not? I’m practicing job skills. Besides, I missed arm day.” She adjusted her outer gloves before reaching up again.
“You- You are a forensic analyst! Why the hell do you need to climb trees?” Isabelle stormed around the trunk to face Elizabeth again.
“I told you, Iz. There’s some things that you just don’t need to know. And this is one of them. You think I could reach that window from here?” Elizabeth pointed at a sill about five feet above her.
“I don’t know, and I don’t think you should try.” Elizabeth shrugged nonchalantly. “If you- Elizabeth! If you take one step closer to that window, I’ll tell Oliver.”
She slowly crouched down and sat on the branch. “Wow, Izzy. You really grow a backbone when you’re scared.” She dropped down and landed in the leaves with a soft crunch. “You should be like that more often.” She patted the other girl on the back.
Isabelle smiled, her face hidden by the darkness.
~~~
“You can’t count that.”
“The hell I can’t! I spent three weeks trying to get that one, I get at least three points for difficulty.”
Nathanael sat back in his chair. “Look, Alex, you wouldn’t let me count that Greek girl last month. This is only fair.”
“Fair? Nate, you barely even kissed that girl. I thought I was being generous listening to your whining, nothing you did deserved even a fraction of a point.” Alex pulled out her phone. “I have photographic evidence that I earned at least five points. At least.” She pulled up a picture and set the phone on the table. Nate leaned over and looked at it.
“I can’t tell that’s her. All I can see is the back of her head.”
“Nate. Come on. Who else has a tattoo like that?”
“Fine, fine. Two points for activity, two and a half difficulty modifier. I agree.” Alex handed her brother her notebook, and he wrote down the numbers.
“Hey, Nate, Alex, what are you two up to?” Lena was standing in the doorway. Alex quickly grabbed the notebook and flipped it closed.
“Talking about exercise. Nate wants some tips.”
Lena nodded thoughtfully. “Dinner’s going to be ready in a few minutes. Camilla cooked tonight, so it’s all wine-based.”
The two nodded, and Lena left.
“Exercise?” Nate raised his eyebrows.
“I was thinking on my feet, okay? She believed it, didn’t she?”
Nate didn’t disagree.
~~~
Feet hit the treadmill. Sweat dripped. Breaths puffed as the distance reading climbed, until-
“Ten miles.” Daisy Mae jumped her feet to the sides of the treadmill and turned off the belt. Still huffing, she dropped to the floor and started doing crunches.
“Daisy Mae?” the door creaked open a sliver and Milford stuck his head into his sister’s room. “Dad wants you downstairs in ten minutes for cotillion- what are you doing?”
“Shut up, I’m trying to concentrate.” She rolled over and switched to push-ups. “I have to finish in seven minutes so I can shower and get dressed.”
“Whatever. Dad’ll be pissed if y’all are late again.”
“I know that, genius. That’s why I’m going fast. Now get out, y’all are throwing off my rhythm.”
The door clicked shut again. Daisy Mae rolled her eyes and lifted one arm, keeping her pace.
