Femslash February challenge

In honor of Femslash Feburary let's look back at the original challenge that started it all.

In 2013 tumblr user soaringrachel asked fans to make a pledge to create at least two fanworks about "ships between women", or F/F ships, during the month of February. Fans rallied to the call, with many individual fans creating fanworks, and some fan communities hosting events such as fests and prompt memes to provide inspiration. It had a modest start, but it has since gone to be an annual fandom staple.

Femslash Review Fest #2: Favors (Sansa/Dany, ASOIAF)

Favors by soaringrachel, Sansa/Dany (ASOIAF) | rated teen + | 1200 words 

"Dany/Sansa American politics AU. Aspirational Westerner Dany spends way too much money on presents for basically-a-Kennedy Sansa."

There aren't enough words to say how much I love this story. If I gushed long enough about it, my review would probably be longer than the fic itself! Favors by soaringrachel is probably what kickstarted my obsession with modern political AUs - and that's a powerful thing. This one is a gem.

Basically, Dany Targaryen is completely, totally lovesick for prim political princess Sansa Stark, dreaming of the day that Sansa might become her First Lady. So it's mostly pining, but what sold me is the seamlessly integrated political landscape behind it all. Ambitious Dany is absolutely perfect, as is tentative and guarded Sansa. There's so much detail packed into just 1200 words that it feels like reading a novella.

they're gross i agree but like to be honest i don't think it's the same thing? like i'm not trying to argue with what you're saying--i've witnessed the same behavior although i don't think it comes from the same people--but i mean to try to put it in a context we probably both have in common: i'm a lot more offended by people who sigh heavily when i tell them no i can't go to their meeting they've tried to schedule on yom kippur than i am by people who question why i don't go to services every week even when they call me a bad jew for it

like i don't know, i think it's valid to be offended by either of course because i think both behaviors are ignorant and gross! but i do think that essentially conforming to the dominant culture even if it's just in one way gets you a lot less shit than actively not conforming, and i think not conforming tends to become a consistent issue MUCH earlier in life

basically when you conform, people judge you on terms they don't understand. when you don't, people act personally and unjustly inconvenienced by it, and i find that significantly more alarming and harder to call out.
