internet drama BUT someone is criticizing the track house for having sober shows that supposedly exclude people who use alcohol to cope with anxiety ~meanwhile~ literally pretty much every other house having shows in oly allows drinking. SO. as far as i can see they are providing an alternative to the majority experience for people who don’t feel comfortable around alcohol. i got this shit a handful of times when i was booking sober shows in a town with far less options (though all of them were drinking options).
problem? there’s SO MANY places having shows in oly, i don’t think one sober place is gonna dramatically decrease anyone’s drinking options, not to mention since there’s like 100 other places to see a show where there’s drinking, you can likely see the exact line up you missed at the woefully sober space at some point in the next week. just sayin’.
not trying to discourage dialogue, but there’s a big difference between safety and comfort. some people literally cannot be around alcohol for their safety, if they’ve suffered with addiction, or a multitude of other reasons. some people drink at shows to feel more comfortable with the excruciating, anxiety-inducing lull beforehand and inbetween sets. i get that. but you gotta understand why the former is prioritized over the latter.
am i the only person who really likes sober shows specifically because i have anxiety and it strips people of their vices so they have nothing left to do but, i don’t know, talk to each other? drinking does a damn fine job of alleviating my anxiety too, but there’s a time and a place, and you know, one house in oly that is kindly asking you not to drink at shows.
