It's not my personality, it's survival.

I didn’t get sober because I had some big realization. I got sober because I ended up in rehab. And even then, I didn’t think I belonged there.

I thought the vitamins they were giving me were some kind of weird medication that was messing me up. But it wasn’t the pills—it was withdrawal. That’s how I found out I was an alcoholic.

Since then, I’ve had relapses. I’ve lived with other addicts and alcoholics, and it made everything worse. I’ve gotten two DUIs. I’ve been sexually assaulted. I’ve put myself in situations that weren’t safe because I didn’t care what happened to me—or I was too far gone to know the difference.

These aren’t things I’m hiding. They’re part of why I don’t drink anymore.

Sobriety didn’t come from strength—it came from survival. And sometimes even survival didn’t feel like enough.

I used to think being sober would make me boring or unrelatable. Now I just know it’s what keeps me alive.

This blog isn’t going to be full of sober inspiration quotes or advice. I’m not here to prove anything. This is just one of the places I keep my truth.
