i have truly loved the sock discourse my fic generated and i LOVE that so many of you messaged about your thoughts on why buck wears socks to bed! (look, i can’t handle it - it’s too fucking cute that he RUNS COLD IN CANON okay)

bedsock-wearers - you are special unicorns of people. i don’t know how you do it. it’s definitely not a bad thing, in case anyone DID start thinking it was weird!

people who don’t wear socks to bed - kindred spirits. THIS kindred spirit is suffering the coldest night yet in victoria and is considering going darkside and wearing fluffy socks to bed.

Harry popped up at his pop up, sold out his secret location show, appeared on Ellen, and played the Live Lounge. Apparently jealous of Niall and Louis getting the Lizzo compliments he covered Juice ("just trying to get on Lizzo’s map really that's what this was for.") (And because her "bops are good.") He seems to have caught a cough from someone* but he sounded amazing anyway on that and the other three songs he played (more than guests usually get.) And the lyric changes omg! The lyric 'Louis down to my drawers' (which would have been quite the choice omg) became gucci, Jeff and Mitch were name checked (changing bitch to Mitch, fucking brilliant), but he left 'you better come get your man' and went all in on it. And he was great in the pre recorded Ellen spots! Way to steal the show comedy genius. He also waffled a waffle on there we haven't seen the likes of since HS1 promo about what the album was about, subjected us to a graphic demonstration of his alarming lack of gag reflex, and said the Sara Lee sketch was his favorite from SNL. Tomorrow, the big show, but first a radio one spot: in a preview we get Scott Mills saying some people just get sexier as they age and Harry immediately jumping in with oh yes like Patrick Dempsey! Can you believe people think this man is a player, he hasn't even got a new celebrity crush in the last decade...

Niall was at the Chicago Jingle Ball tonight and him and Lewis did a song (Teenage Dream) together!! They sound so good together I can't wait for more beautiful harmonies every night on their tour! He also complained about the cold (reasonable), responded to a harrie posting hate about him (probably not the best use of time but wow), and was super impressed watching fan covers of his songs for a Glamour video. And! A vevo live performance of PALLOM! Even more stripped down! Beautiful.

Liam sang Live Forever on both the Tonight Show and the Today Show, and played a round of name that tune with the previously undefeated Jimmy Fallon which was cute as hell, and won it by recognizing the distinctive cowbell intro of, yes, WMYB, and he said Post Malone slid in his DMs.

We got a cute interview with Louis by a self identified longtime 1D fan which is nice but I'm still stuck on the part where they said they picked him as their favorite in the X Factor days because he was "quiet" and "brooding"... I know we all project different things onto our faves but wow that's... a take. They also said "2020 is going to be THE year of Louis Tomlinson" and ya know what, that I agree with entirely.

Christmas gift roundup, Harry says he wants his favorite bag fixed and gives the trash out of his pocket to Scott Mills to give as a secret Santa gift, Liam says the worst gift is socks and Louis says he'd like to get some socks (Liam voice, I mean we're just really different people from each other you know?)

*I didn't say he got it from Louis who had a similar cough last week, but that is a much cuter thought than that the germy miasma from the GA at Fine Line Live was so bad that it somehow got even Harry; between camping all week and sick people being crammed in with everyone for all those hours and the shared water bottles, the reports of contagion are awful. Get your flu shots everyone! Now brace yourself, I'm about to say something positive about HSHQ- thank god they took steps to prevent camping out in freezing weather in London for the show tomorrow. It's gonna be a wild rush when they announce the location day of but a better idea nonetheless.

100. if you were presented with two buttons, one that allows you to go 5 years into the past, the other 5 years into the future, which one would you press? why?

The past, for two reasons. First, the very trademark ‘I don’t want to know what happens before it does,’ because it would definitely give me more anxiety, rather than alleviate it. I don’t even like spoilers about tv because it makes me anxious and constantly trying to calculate how the thing is going to happen, so I don’t want that in my real life. Plus, the journey from now until then is more interesting than the result. Which is my second reason for the past; I think it would help me to feel more compassion for my past self, who I often roll my eyes at, but also more grateful for where I am now.

56. what are some things you find endearing in people?

I usually find most people endearing unless they have some kind of red flag because I have a pathological need to be liked, so I try to find the most like-able thing about other people. BUT I think I am always most endeared by people who have an obvious amount of self-awareness. I also find honesty very endearing, though there is a distinction between socially uncomfortable honesty and unkind honesty. I am always more endeared to the people who want to make individual connections with people more than those who want to make an impression upon a whole room. Anyone who is potentially misunderstood, either because everyone else perceives them either exceptionally tough (when they are actually very tender), or exceptionally reserved (when really they just require more time and direct attention to bond).

31: what is your opinion of socks? do you like wearing weird socks? do you sleep with socks? do you confine yourself to white sock hell? really, just talk about socks.

I mostly own ankle length, black socks because I had to wear them as part of a uniform for two years so I bought bulk packs. They’re also perfect for boots. Otherwise I have a lot of wool socks, but I also like weird socks. I have a few pairs of teacher socks that I love: the solar system, my math socks. Need more, frankly. I wear socks with Birkenstocks in the spring and fall and I feel no shame about it. I never wear socks to sleep, nor do I wear them in summer. Hot feet are a big no.
