We have already found the link between the release dates of new coke and Tales from '85. But one thing in this Wikipedia paragraph keeps bothering me.

It mentions that Cherry Coke played a role in Coco-Cola's success in 1985. Almost every article I can find about Cherry Coke mentions that it was released "around the same time" or "almost simultaneously" with New Coke but no one gives an exact date. Some sources just say 1985 or summer of 1985 or early 1985.

I could only find a specific date on Kiddle and from a Reddit post from six years ago. Even the official Coke website doesn’t mention it.

We know that original Coke was rereleased 79 days after New Coke (on 11th July). But I'm not sure how that lines up with CG because the season 5 book comes out in June.

If Original Coke = Stranger Things and New Coke = Tales from '85, then what could Cherry Coke represent?

Some Bylers have suggested Cherry Coke could be subtext for Byler itself.

I'm thinking we might be getting some sort of clue on the 19th or maybe even noticeable changes to episodes given that the episode copyrights haven't been registered yet.

This is just for fun, by the way, I don't want people to get hung up on specific dates. The wait is testing our patience, so we might as well have fun with the theories while we're here.

Before Wil approaches Robin in the hospital, he grabs a Classic Coke from a machine. As soon as he sees Robin and Vickie kissing, he drops the can on the floor, causing it to break and fizzle out.

Byler theorists have analyzed the presence of Coke and other sodas on the show before and suggested that Classic Coke might represent heteronormativity, normality, etc.

I like the idea that seeing a gay couple kissing opened his eyes to the idea that even in Hawkins, gay people can find love.

Seeing Rovickie -> dropping the can of Coke -> letting go of the idea that only straights can date

and coca-cola once again makes an appearance… interesting how there’s only one coke can and it’s on will’s tray but technically it’s also right in between mike and will. and it looks like dustin has a juice or milk carton and i’m assuming the drink lucas has is a dr. pepper

holly’s walls decorated in flowers, meanwhile mike gave el flowers that she’s actually disappointed about because it says “from:mike” and season 4 ends with el touching the same type of flowers but they’re dead. not to mention, in el’s letter to mike she mentions that she likes the flowers in california, but she returns to hawkins and now the flowers there are dead.

also flowers have been used as easter eggs before. look at how the flowers look like demogorgons from these stills

and as you see there’s a rainbow in erica’s room just like holly has rainbows in her room and in the still of lucas, mike, and el there’s a rainbow heart all the way to the far left on the wall lol… like do we even need to go into details about the symbolism of rainbows?? they’re EVERYWHERE in stranger things. i swear i wrote a post about the usage of rainbows and what they symbolize to el, but i can’t find it. but basically what i said in it was how it’s interesting el would put a rainbow on the letter to mike or have rainbows in her room when technically rainbows have a negative connotation for her because of the rainbow room at the lab. this is the only post of mine i can find where i talk about rainbows. but let’s look at the fact BOTH el and holly have multicolored hearts in their rooms. (also!! el has little pink flowers on her shirt)

anyways i fear the girls and the gays will be going through it in season 5!! but honestly being a stranger things fan is so funny because how do i explain to a normal person that cats, coca-cola, flowers, rainbows, and hearts basically have double entendres for representing homosexuality, the upside down, and/or the lab

something about the coca cola sign being placed right in between mike, will, and el. something about only 2 cokes being placed on the left and right side of el at dinner causing them to be in direct line with mike and will. something about mike expressing his dislike for the new coke and how it’s not same concept like the old coke to lucas while sitting right next to will. something about the sprite sign being in the background of mike and el while mike asks her “if her species likes m&ms” and m&ms are all the same flavor no matter the color vs skittles where each color is a different flavor and that’s the candy lucas and max share in this scene. something about mike drinking a 7up when will “the roll—it was a 7” byers is sitting right next to him.

Guys Coca Coma is so confusing because I know it's important since El herself thinks of Brenner and Max depending on the container, but also it's more complex because it's in scenes with Kali, in the Rink-O-Mania, in the Surfer Boy Pizza, and yet the Owens scene randomly had Pepsi??
