It honestly really sucks when people don’t understand the core message of Stranger Things. I talked with my sister about episode 4, and she thought they were trying to “woke-ify” the show. “Not everyone needs to be different,” she said. “What they need to focus on is killing the monster.”
Holy shit. What do you think the monsters are supposed to represent??? The themes of the mind flayer being a hive mind and it representing conformity, conservatism, refusal to change or accept change. That shit is DANGEROUS. If you wanted a show where everyone is “normal”, you could’ve picked any basic white bitch show, but you didn’t. You chose to watch Stranger Things. And you can ignore its message in favor of the flashy action and Steve Harrington’s looks all you want, but you CANNOT erase what it truly is because it makes you uncomfortable.
It really shocked me. The comment about “woke-ification” stung, but it solidified what I already knew to be true, but hoped wasn’t. People who don’t want to see the truth won’t see it, even if it’s right in front of them. To my sister, Will Byers will always be the whiny pick-me that the writers turned gay for woke points. And unfortunately, her voice is not going to be the only one saying that.
Murray said that people keep the curtain closed because they like not knowing what’s behind the curtain. And boy, I hope the rest of season 5 rips that curtain wide open. Happy thanksgiving yall 😭✌️
