Side note this episode was hillarious. I fucking love Sodayo, and his personality. And his Wynaut confirming that what he's saying is the truth is a cute detail. I can only imagine the little Wynaut going: "That's right!" I'm make a comic with him and my ocs so stay tuned!

Pokemon Horizons Episode 76 Review - Wynaut Ask An Old Friend?

Did you know that two weirdoes on social media were spreading around baseless rumors about Liko capturing a Wynaut when this episode’s title was revealed? With what transpired in the previous episode and this episode not focusing on her at all, I wonder if they’re embarrassed for making it up.

Why I mentioned this is because it reminds me of the plot of this episode, with the Rising Volt Tacklers meeting a former member, Sohtim da Yotim, or Sohdayo, and how he’s a pathological liar befitting his job as a dubious journalist for Dot’s favorite magazine Monthly Occulture. He takes advantage of people’s naivety and makes up over-exaggerated rumors that the kids believe in but the adults don’t as they’re used to his lies. Mollie used to be a constant victim in the past, hence why she cannot stand the guy present day. He’s certainly a divisive character as one would either hate him for being a constant liar or love him for his quirkiness. I’m most surprised with his voice actor being Shimba Tsuchiya because this is the first time I’ve heard him voicing an adult character as a majority of his past roles were teen boys; he’s most known for voicing Goshiki from Haikyuu.

However, his rumors aren’t all completely false. Murdock did make his aforementioned cake, but it was mainly shared with the RVTs; Orla did make a ship that’s sailing the world, but it’s actually the one they’re standing on right now; most of all, he did guess correctly about Ludlow having a body of iron like a superhero. He also guessed correctly about three Farigirafs coming their way. And from what I assume, his words about Entei being spotted in Olivine City is also truth. It’s just hard to completely trust him when his words are like a coin toss. He reminds me a lot of this one character from this mobile game I used to play called Tales of Crestoria where one of the characters in that game was a female journalist who had a habit of making up lies like him to the point that it’s hard to know if she’s telling truths at times.

The other portion of this episode is trying to resolve the tension that an angry Farigarif had. Apparently, the reason was due to turf wars, but fortunately, the fight was resolved once Dot fixed the lake. Remember to always stay hydrated because dehydration does lead to fights like what the Espathra and the three Farigarifs had going on.

I do wonder why the anime has this fascination for making the Chansey family super strong despite their canonical base stat being 5. It happened with some Nurse Joys’ Chanseys in the past and Brock’s Happiny was famous for her superhuman strength which she retained as a Blissey. Mollie’s Chansey maintains that legacy by tackling Sohdayo and his Wynaut like Team Rocket’s blast off when he was being too much towards the kids and also destroying a large boulder.  To be honest, I hope they keep doing this because it’s a hilarious running gag.

In all honesty, this was a fun episode because the concept of the Rising Volt Tacklers having former members was something I never really considered until now. It was also nice seeing some parts of Mollie’s past, even if it isn’t much. What do you think of Sohdayo? Would you like to see him in a future episode? Let me know!
