third, i usually just over-describe characters' thoughts or details in the setting/surroundings of the scene to grow my word count and create a better atmosphere for the reader to really visualize everything clearly!
it's crazy what a difference in detail can make, like a plain sentence like this:
"She walked on to the court. Her new team was already there. She suddenly felt nervous."
could be changed and whipped up to something more detailed and deep like this:
"She stepped onto the court, the soles of her shoes squeaking against the newly waxed floors echoing through the gym. Her teammates, unfamiliar yet already active, were scattered all across the court, jerseys around their bodies. A strange twist pulled tight in her stomach—nerves she swore she wouldn't let show this early—but she straightened up anyway, jogging over to grab a ball and pretend her pulse wasn't racing."
detail is the most key and crucial part of a story and i'm so glad i realized that when i began transitioning from the sturniolos to billie a long while ago 😭 it's all in the description and feeling of the story, really, iykwim :)
