The first rays of morning light slipped through the narrow windows of the Slytherin dormitory, casting a muted glow across the cool stone walls. Regulus lay on his side, half-propped on an elbow, his dark hair tousled from sleep. His gaze lingered on you, your body still tangled with his in the rumpled sheets. He reached out without thinking, his fingers brushing lightly across the smooth curve of your back, feeling the warmth of your skin against his.
Without thinking, he reached out, his fingers brushing lightly across the smooth curve of your back. The warmth of your skin against his sent a quiet thrill through him, and he let his hand linger, tracing the dip of your spine, the soft muscle of your shoulder. The intimacy of it settled over him like a blanket, warm and comforting. He could feel the steady rise and fall of your chest beneath his palm, the subtle rhythm of your pulse against his fingertips.
He shifted closer, his breath just a whisper against your neck as he pressed a slow kiss to the skin just below your ear, tasting the salt of sleep on your skin. The soft rustle of the blankets as he moved was the only sound in the room, and Regulus closed his eyes for a moment, savoring the closeness. He never thought he'd find a moment like this—where everything outside of this bed, this warmth, you, seemed irrelevant.
You stirred slightly, a soft hum escaping your lips as you felt his touch. Regulus smiled faintly, his hand stilling for a moment before resuming its gentle exploration. His fingers traced idle patterns along your shoulder, his touch feather-light, as though he were afraid to break the spell of the moment.
“Morning,” you murmured, your voice thick with exhaustion as you turned your head to look at him. Your eyes were half-lidded, still heavy with the remnants of dreams, but there was a softness in your gaze that made his chest tighten.
“Morning,” Regulus replied, his voice low and rough from sleep. He leaned in, brushing his lips against yours in a kiss that was slow and unhurried, reeking of lazy mornings and love. When he pulled back, he rested his forehead against yours, his breath mingling with yours in the quiet space between you.
“You’re warm,” you mumbled, shifting closer to him until there was no space left between you. Your leg hooked over his, your arm draping across his waist as you buried your face in the crook of his neck. Regulus let out a quiet laugh, the sound vibrating against your skin.
“You’re the one who’s warm,” he countered, though he made no move to pull away. Instead, he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you even closer. His hand found its way into your hair, his fingers gently carding through the strands as he pressed another kiss to the top of your head.
You sighed contentedly, your fingers tracing absentminded patterns on his chest. “Can we stay like this forever?” you asked, voice muffled against his skin.
Regulus hummed in agreement, though he knew it was impossible. Still, he could pretend, pretend that the world outside this room didn’t exist, that it was just the two of you, wrapped up in each other, with nothing but the soft light of morning and the sound of your breathing to keep you company.
The moment was shattered by the sound of the door slamming open, followed by Barty’s loud, cheerful voice. “Rise and shine, lovebirds! We’ve got—oh.”
Regulus froze, his arms tightening around you instinctively as he turned his head to glare at Barty. You, on the other hand, buried your face in Regulus’ chest, your shoulders shaking with silent laughter.
“Out,” Regulus said flatly, his voice sharp enough to cut glass.
Barty, to his credit, looked only mildly apologetic. He raised his hands in mock surrender, a grin spreading across his face. “Didn’t mean to interrupt your… cuddle session. But seriously, we’ve got class in ten minutes. Evans is already losing his mind over the herbology test.”
Regulus sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose as he tried to will away the headache that was already forming. “We’’ll be there. Now get out.”
Barty saluted, still grinning, before backing out of the room and closing the door behind him. The room fell silent again, save for the sound of your muffled laughter.
“You’re laughing,” Regulus said, his tone accusatory but his lips twitching with the beginnings of a smile.
“I can’t help it,” you said, finally lifting your head to look at him. Your eyes were bright with amusement, your cheeks flushed from laughing. “God, I love your face.”
Regulus rolled his eyes, but he couldn’t stop the smile that spread across his face. He leaned in, pressing a quick kiss to your lips before reluctantly untangling himself from you. “C’mon” he mumbled, his voice softening. “We need to go.”
You grinned, pulling the blankets up around you. “Five more minutes?”
