The bride and groom shared the first dance alone, as was customary, and among the other knights and castle workers and family and friends invited, Lancelot watched them glide across the dancefloor, still stunning as could be and looking like the perfect couple, as if they had stepped out of a dream. Their crowns had been removed for the sake of comfort as they danced, and yet they were no less breathtaking to watch. Lancelot quelled the yearning in his chest, leaning back against the wall, eyes following the spinning couple moving to the romantic tune that wafted through the air like a breeze.
Another beautiful commission, done by the incredible @solar-socks who went right for the throat with two of my favourite things: Arthur and Guin in their happy platonic marriage of convenience and necessity, and dancing.
'tis a Longclaw! A collab between me, @solar-socks and @veamers!
I did the sketch and final effects, Veams handled the lines, and Solar did coloring, shading and background!
I've been inspired by @solar-socks TLOU2 au and with their permission will be writing out tidbits! This is just a short drabble, very soft and not too angsty. Hope y'all like it!
Just Last Night
Despite the years that passed, Sonic could hardly call the end of the world ‘quiet’. Sure, it didn’t go out in a blaze of glory (some blazing yes, but little glory) and the metallic sheen of infected bodies made him sick to his stomach, but it had all tumbled down rather… smoothly.
The cicadas screamed far off in the woods beyond the cabin. In the dewy grass, Sonic stretched out, eyes half lidded as he stared up into the velvet black of the night sky. This was something he hated to admit sometimes, but he loved being able to see the stars. On a clear night, they sky could take up your whole field of vision. It was like seeing only beauty.
“There you are.”
Speaking of beauty…
Fighting the smile that threatened to curl on his lips, Sonic closed his eyes and patted the space beside him.
“The grass is wet.” Shadow muttered, already lowering himself to stretch out beside him.
“How’s Silver?” Sonic turned slightly to look at the dark hedgehog beside him. He hadn’t been out here that long, was everything okay?
“He’s fine.” Shadow sighed, and Sonic could see him rolling his shoulders. “Tired from today. I told him to wash up and head to bed.”
“Mmm. Very responsible of you.”
“Shut up.”
Sonic let out a huff of laughter, but it was subdued. He returned his attention to the twinkling lights above. Despite everything, they remained unchanged. Sonic wasn’t too sure if there was bitterness or comfort in that, but he hoped for the former.
Beside him, Shadow reached out, settling a dark palm over his own.
Immediately, Sonic felt the tension he’d been holding in his body dissipate.
“Everything alright?” Came the quiet question.
This… thing between the two of them was new. But felt like a dance they’d been in for longer than either of them knew. It didn’t feel awkward or fumbling. Sonic had truly never felt anything like it.
“What gave it away?”
Shadow hummed thoughtfully. “Well, you excused yourself from dinner after only your second helping.” Sonic rolled his eyes at that, the familiar grin playing at the edge of his mouth. “And… It’s the anniversary.”
Quick as it came, the gentle smile slid of Sonic’s face. A deep weight settled itself in his chest as he remembered why he’d come out here to see the stars in the first place.
A kind, comfortinf laugh and a sure hand who taught him how to play the guitar. Green eyes stared pleadingly at the stars above, trying to chase the images away.
“Do you know much about stars?” His question was little more than a broken whisper. Yet he knew Shadow would never think less of him for it.
“I do. My sister… she loved the constellations. Looked up at the sky every day.”
Swallowing his grief, Sonic paid attention. It wasn’t often Shadow talked about her. “Will you tell me?”
Squeezing his hand ever so gently, Shadow scooched closer so they were shoulder to shoulder. He twined their fingers together, pointing upwards towards the inky night.
“Do you see those two largest stars? Well, if you follow the trail…”
Shadow’s voice was a soothing river that Sonic wanted to drift down. It was still hard to talk about...him. It was hard enough to think about him. But Shadow never pushed, never demanded. Only asked that Sonic be there.
HEY! I know this a pretty big difference from what I usually post, but a person on tumblr, solar-socks, has recently made a Sonic the hedgehog Last of us 2 au that lots of people already enjoy. I know I love it. If you want, go check out their work on it and you’ll probably get more insight on how this is suddenly what I’m going to be posting for the next few days.
ANYWAY TO THE STORY SONADOW FANS WELCOME IF YOU AIN’T A FAN HATE AIN'T WELCOME
Sonic slightly furrowed his brow as his hands began to shake a little. He clenched them tightly, then opened them wide, repeating the process until they were steady. Sitting down on an overturned piece of broken pillar and settling the old thing in his arms, the blue hedgehog strummed a guitar he had found in one of the destroyed buildings. The room around him in general was overgrown with kudzu, almost covering up the windows.
He could sense every muscle in his body relaxing when he took a sit, his mind clearing enough to seem calm. It felt nice, just sitting there in the lowlight of the evening sun, not having to run for his life or to shoot someone or something down for the benefit of his own survival.
He strummed a few notes. “If I ever were to lose you…” he sang, biting his lip so he wouldn’t remember how that was the last time Tom had sung to him before he had been--
“What was that?” Sonic quickly looked up to see his partner, Shadow the Hedgehog, leaning against the doorway, eyes narrowed in curiosity, lip curled in amusement. He had his arms crossed over his chest as he tilted his head to the side, thinking how silly Sonic looked with a slack-jawed expression.
Sonic smacked his lips in hesitation, then shook his head, looked down at the guitar, and replied, “Nothing.”
“Hmm…Well, ‘nothing’ sure sounds nice.” While it was rare to get a compliment from Shadow, Sonic knew it was genuine and not a teasing comment. Over the past few years, they had become close, doing almost everything together, from patrols to eating to hanging out. The blue blur smiled softly, but it quickly vanished when Shadow stepped closer.
“Remember that night by the bonfire?” Sonic suddenly asked.
Shadow thought it was random, but just said, “Yeah.”
Sonic began strumming the guitar again, and Shadow recognized the song. He smiled as he bent down to sit on the floor next to his friend, who started to sing.
“Talking away, I don’t know what I’m to say…”
“I’ll say it anyway. Today’s another day to find you.”
“Shying away, I’ll be coming for your love, ok?”
“Take on me…Take me on…”
“I’ll be gone in a day or two.”
“Needless to say, of odds and ends, but I’ll be stumbling away…”
“Slowly learning that life is okay…”
“Say after me, it’s no better to be safe than sorry.”
“Take on me…take me on…”
“I’ll be gone in a day or two…in a day or two…”
Sonic let the last note fade out and turned to Shadow for a review. Shadow had a look of simple bliss on his face, contentment Sonic hadn’t seen in anyone for a long time. It was nice, and if playing the guitar and singing an old, cheesy song was what got Shadow smiling, he’d be glad to do it every day.
yeah it’s crap but I’m trying. My insomnia keeps me up so I came up with half of this at two in the morning just because I said I would. Hope you like it. If you don’t, then you don’t and I’m cool with that

This is SO pretty and soft, and you did such an amazing job drawing a little tangle of cuddled-up persons which is difficult to do and also my favourite thing in the world, which is why I wrote about it. They all have such lovely eyes too, so gentle and gorgeous. This is beautiful and I love it; thank you so much!
